Teaching goals: 1.

To review some English vocabulary related to music. 2.

To learn about expressing emotions. 3.

To learn to appreciate music. Teaching important and difficult points: 1.

Arouse the students’ interests in music. 2.

Lead the students to express their feelings. Teaching methods：

Task-based teaching method, speaking, pair and group work, discussion. Teaching aids:

A multi-media computer & a blackboard Teaching procedures:

Step 1.

Guess

Use a guessing game to lead-in the topic of this period.

Step

2.

Brainstorm 1.

Show the students a question: 

When you talk about music, what comes to your mind? 2.

Conclude some related items about music according to the students’ answers. 3.

Then, add more words related to each item.

Step 3.

Express emotions 1.

Enjoy a piece of music. 2.

Then, ask the students the question; 

What do you think about the piece of music? Show the students some sentence patterns to help them express feelings.

Share a sample written by the teacher, about the feelings about this piece of

music.

step 4.

Speak & write 1

1.

Play another piece of music, and ask the students to fill in the blanks to complete the lyrics while listening. 2.

Then play the video to check their answers, and think about “what do they think about the music” and “what can you get from this song” at the same time. 3.

Give the students some time to practise expressing their feelings using the sentence patterns.

4.

Ask the students to add more details to the sentences, and then write a short passage. step 5.

Conclusion 1.

Ask the students “Is music important to us?”

Show the students some common sense about music, and then lead them to conclude the function of music.
