Objectives: 1.

Students are able to write an email, a notice or an ad involving some musical instruments. 2.

Students are able to write an email to recommend a special person. 3.

Students are able to write a note to give advice to their friends who plan to learn to play the pipa/ guzheng. 4.

Students are able to offer a reply to a foreign e-pal’s desire to know the characteristics of Chinese classical music. 5.

Students are able to write a paragraph to give advice on how a Chinese musician can become international. Procedures: Ⅰ. Part 1 Suppose our school has decided to set up a big band combining Chinese traditional instruments and western ones. You are required to help finish the following tasks in groups. You can

choose whichever task you like. 1.Write an email to the principal to tell him what instruments should be bought and introduce some of them. 2.Write a notice to invite music lovers to join the band. Inform them what instruments can be offered. Add some requirements. 3.Write a hiring ad on the Internet to hire some part-time music teachers to give instructions to the band members. Explain what instruments they should be good at as well as working time and pay. 学生本模块复习并新学了一些中外乐器并了解一些中西乐器的历史，但却无趣。笔者按任务型教学方式进行了大胆的设计：以学校决定组建中西融合的乐队为背景，设计了互相关联的三个任务：一个是给校长发邮件，要求购置相关乐器并对部分乐器作简介；一个是写通知招募乐队成员并提相关要求；另一个是在网上发布招聘广告，招聘乐队兼职指导教师。

学生以小组为单位，自愿选择一个任务，合作完成，然后上讲台展示，它组同学及教师进行点评。

Ⅱ. Part 2 1. Read the passage “An Interview with Liu Fang” again. Suppose you want to have Liu Fang one of the part-time music teachers. Now write an email to the principal to introduce her. The following should be included.

General introduction Her study experiences Her achievements Her personality 课文是关于国际音乐明星刘芳的访谈，笔者要求学生在快速再读文章之后，马上以个人的名义给校长发邮件，推荐刘芳做乐队的兼职音乐教师并恰当介绍她。这样自然地就与Part1的任务又衔接上了。

2. Use the information in the 2nd question in the passage to give advice to your friend who plans to learn to play the pipa/ guzheng. 接着，利用文中刘芳对

“演奏琵琶和古筝最大的挑战是什么”的回答，要求学生给自己打算学琵琶或古筝的朋友一些建议。

3. Change the 4th question into a title and add something to make this part a complete passage replying to a foreign e-pal’s desire to know the characteristics of Chinese classical music. 然后，让学生将文中关于中国古典音乐特点的问答改编成一封回信，答复国外网友对中国古典音乐特点的好奇。

4. Give your advice on how a Chinese musician can become international, using the information in the last paragraph in Part 3. 最后，让学生利用文中最后一段的信息，给中国的音乐家提些建议，怎样才能在国际化的路上发展。

在这样的任务型语言教学过程中,学生分小组或结对或独立完成各种任务。通过这些活动,学生的语言活动量得以成倍地增长。他们把学习过的词汇、语法结构、固定用法及书本信息重新组合,用来表达以前没有表达过的意思，产生了语言的再创造。

创造任务型语言教学可以最大限度地激发学生的学习动机。由于有了明确的、具体的课程和任务目标,为了完成某个任务而使用语言,学生不再是被动地跟随教师的指挥做各种活动。他们有更多的机会选择他们感兴趣的话题,表达他们自己的想法,描述他们熟悉的事情,选择他们自己喜欢的材料,构建自己的知识领域。在完成任务的过程中,他们有机会体验成功,认识自己的不足。这些体验与认识会促使他们继续努力,成为真正的自主学习者。
