Frankenstein’s

Monster I.

Teaching purposes: 1.Guide the students to practise reading ability

.2. guide students to learn to describe the feeling of regret.3. guide the students to learn some important

phrases and words.

Time table :

2 periods are needed ( Period 1 : read and understand the main idea ; Period 2: learn the important sentences and words ) III.

Teaching procedures of Period 1 :

Step 1. warming up by listening to the daily presentation and recalling the information on the film Frankenstein learned in Part 2 in the Introduction . Step 2.

learn Part 1 by listening to the recording and writing

the biography of the monster. ------Frankenstein created the monster, but refused to create a wife for him so he felt lonely and unhappy .As a result , he murdered his creator’s brother ,friend and fiancee , which caused his creator to chase him to destroy him. Finally, he died in the Arctic.

Step 3. Learn Part 2 by listening to the recording and writing down the clue of the things that happened on a cold November night .------ the creature came to life , which had been the only aim of Frankenstein in the past 2 years. However, when it came true, the creator didn’t feel excited but horrified by the monster so he rushed away from the monster . When he slept in his bedroom, he had nightmares . When he woke up, he saw the monster by his bed and escaped from it once more. Step 4. learn the feelings of the scientist: anxious before the monster came to life ;

horrified and disgusted when seeing the living monster, regretful for what he had done. Finally he was so fearful that he wanted to escape from the monster .

Period 2: learn the following new words and key sentences and further understand the passage.

Teaching procedure: Step 1: play the recording sentence by sentence and the learn the following words and key sentences : 1. chase sb. To somewhere . 2. It was... that ...3. give life to ..4. fall against ...5. be burnt out

6. breathe hard . 7. describe my emotion 8. I had done.... 9. vanish 10 . I wish I had not done ....11. walk up and down 12. shake with fear /excitement 13. put out a hand 14. run out of

Step 2: Discuss what you think of the creator . ---- As a scientist , how

he can use the technology and science should be considered carefully otherwise nothing but tragedy

will be caused and made
