Reading: Coping With Disaster Step I

Warming Up

1. Read a piece of news about students suicide and ask students to discuss if it is worthwhile to end his life. 2. Talk about the difficulties students once met and how they solve the problems. Step II

Reading

1. Let the students read the title and the first paragraph to understand the meaning of the word "disaster" 2. Skim the subtitles and tell us what is the main idea of the text. 3. Instruct students to discuss what they want to know the text , such as the end of Xiaoming's story; how Xiaoming went through his difficulties. 4. Scan the text to find their answers. If they meet strange words, they can guess the meanings of them based on the context or by using word-formation. Step III

Post Reading

1. Instruct students to find the different feelings of Xiaoming in different times;

2. Reconsider the piece of news and ask different students to express their ideas. 3. Enjoy a vedio of Nick Vujicic and share the idea of him to cope with a diaster. Step IV

Homework

1. Write down one of your present troubles and solutions you are going to try; 2. Finish the reading text with titles assigned.
