1.

Teaching Objectives 1To know what people often lose,

○2

To introduce the Lost and Found Office in New York City ○3

To get the learning method that it is a good way to understand English by finding

○out the interesting facts.

2.

The analysis of students

It is the first module, that means students has been back school for a short time.

And after a long time of holiday, many students are busy with looking for something. It is the very topic we talk in this class, so students are very familiar with it. As a result, they are interested in find a way how to get the lost things back.

3.

Important and difficult points The focus of this lesson is to introduce the Lost and Found Office in New York City with the help of outline. The outline is made up of five questions, which refers to the main idea of each paragraph. So it is really important for students to keep these five questions in mind and can answer it immediately. The answers combined together is the main structure of the passage. It require students of ability of generalization, while it is a really tough challenge for Grade 7 students. Difficult

points: 4.

Teaching procedures Step 1: Lead in

T: Look at the screen and what can you see? S1: It’s a Teddy Bear.

T: Yes. Let’s enjoy more pictures. Can you see the word “found” here? What does it mean? Ss: Find….

T: Yes, it means someone find it, right?

Whose are they? Are they yours? S1: No, they aren’t. T: Can you guess whose they are?

(Repeat the question again,

Ss: The boy. Step 2: Presentation

T: Maybe it’s the boy’s. So we can say “Children leaves toys on__________.”

( I’ll prompt students by asking them where the boy is.) S1: on plane. T: Yes, on planes. Children leaves toys on planes.

Circle the word “leave” and offer two Chinese choices “A.离开

B. 遗落". Students can understand the meaning by choosing one of the Chinese meaning. (Meanwhile bring out the printed plane , show it to the students and ask them to spell it. Then stick it to the blackboard. )

T: Where else do children leave the toys? T: Can you use a link word to combine these two sentences? Ss: Or (The whole class read the sentences with linking word together. That is: People often lose things when they are travelling or when they are in a hurry.

Present picture 3:

T: Look! The man is in a hurry too. What does he lose? S1: He loses his phone. T: When does he lose?

( The textbook offer the original sentence “

when the man is getting on the bus” directly. But I change it into a filling exercise which allows students to review the ways of transportation we learned just now. This is a natural way to stress the words required to learn in this class.) The adapted sentence:

Step 3: Brainstorm what people often lose. ---What do people often lose? ---They often lose_____.

Invite about five students to report their answer. During the process, repeat the words in right way when students pronounce it wrong, as to remind students the right pronunciation. At the same time, ask students to spell some words, especially those are newly learned in this class. Step 4: Brainstorm where the lost and found offices are. T: We often lose things, and we can go to the lost and found offices. Where can we find the lost and found office?

Step 4: Pre-reading T: You see there are so many lost and found offices around our country. It is the same to the world. There are lost and found office in every city around the world. ( present the map of the world, then the map of America, next mark the state of New York, finally present the map of the New York State. There is a city called New York City in New York State.)

T: Today we are going to learn the Lost and Found Office in New York City. (“ the Lost and Found Office in New York City” is the title of the passage. And it refers to the only lost and found office in New York City. First I tell students that there are lots of lost and found offices in New York City, and then I apply the way of subordinating something to one class used in math into my class as following.

“The New York City Lost and Found Office” equals with “ the Lost and Found Office in New York City”. It is the only one in New York City. Step 5: While-reading Task 1: Read the passage and match the questions with each paragraph. 1
