VI. Teaching Procedures:

Stage1 Greeting & Lead-in

After greetings, the teacher shows a map of Australia and introduces its location, therefore lead the topic to New Zealand.

T: (Show a map of Australia and New Zealand.) Now look at this map. This is Australia and this country lies off the coast of AUZ. Its national flag is like this. Do you know the name of this country?

Ss: New Zealand T: Good. New Zealand is a beautiful island. Let’s

watch some introduction of NZ.

Stage2 Pre-reading

Task 1:

1. Watch the video and pay attention to what aspects of New Zealand the guide will talk about. For example: location, population, culture

2. After watching the video, let the Ss say something about describing a country or a region.

T: What parts of NZ did the guide tell us? How can you describe a country?

Ss: capital, population, language, peoples, culture, important occasions, industry, farm products, farming activities, forests, popular activities, natural beauty, holidays, school vacation, climate, education…

Stage3 While-reading

Task 2 Skimming:

Ask the Ss to skim the text for the main ideas of each paragraph. The teacher mentions the skills of skimming before reading.

T: Great. So before we read a text, we can guess what the author will talk about, right? Now please open the book and turn to page 38. Let’s

see how the text talks about NZ. After reading, you must summary each paragraph using only one word.
