Frankenstein’s Monster

Teaching aims: 1.Knowledge aims: Guide the student to grasp the main idea of the whole text and each paragraph. Master some important words, phrases and sentence structures. 2.Ability aims: Train the student’s ability of finding out the key words and sentence of each paragraph quickly. Cultivate the student’s ability of analyzing the structure.

Master some important reading strategies. 3.Emotional aim: guide the students to have a subjunctive attitude towards science. Analysis of the text: Teaching important & difficult points: Help the student to grasp the detailed information of the text quickly and appropriately. Guide the student to find out the clue of the text. Analyze the structure of the text clearly and reasonably.

Teaching methods:

Communicative language teaching and Task-based language learning.

Use exercises to consolidate reading. Encourage all students to take part in class activities by discussing and pair-work.

Teaching procedures: Step1. Lead-in Did Frankenstein create a wife for the creature? Read part1 and you may know the answer. Questions: 1. What does Frankenstein do with bones form dead bodies?

2. What characteristics or personalities does the creature have? 3. Who does the creature murder (v. kill secretly) and why? Step2. While reading

1. Ask the students to read part to match the main idea with each paragraph.

2. Read part 2 and find out the words to describe the appearance of the creature.

3. Read part 2 again and find the words to describe the feelings Frankenstein has for the creature.

3. Why does Frankenstein have such feelings towards the creature created by himself? What do you get from the story? Frankenstein has such feelings because of the appearance the creature has. The creator judges his own work according to its appearance. It’s wrong to behave like that. We can’t judge a person according to his appearance.

The creature is just different from us. He is different. But that’s not the reason for us to have discrimination and prejudice on him. We are born kind and equal. With less discrimination and prejudice , we will meet a wonderful world.
