The Road to Success Grammar---- Reported Statements I. Teaching goals

1. Ability goals: Students should be able to use indirect speech in everyday situation. 2. Learning ability goals: Learn about the reported verbs and linking words, especially when reporting a Yes/No question and a Wh-question.

II. Teaching important points 1. Enable the students to practice making reported statements. 2. Enable the students to make a story using indirect speech as much as possible. III. Teaching difficult points

When using reported speech, students may have problems with backshifting of the verbs and

changes in tenses, pronouns and time expressions. IV. Teaching aids: Multimedia computer

V. Teaching procedures

Step I Leading in Introduce Wang Junyan’ story and bring out the direct speech and indirect speech. Step II Learn about reported statements for facts.

1. Change celebrities’ quotations into indirect speech. 1). Ma Yun says : “ Small business, big version and more hopes.”

2). Li Kaifu says that opportunities matters more than stability. 3). Yao Ming says that you may not always succeed even if you work hard. He says that you will fail if you give up. 4). Wang Junyan said that being curious, working hard, and believing in what was true made her

never finish my homework on time 4. Exchange it with other students to report the problems .

For example: I doubt what the dog is thinking about.
