Divide the class into small groups. In each group, one student will be the leader (who asks questions) while the other students will answer the questions. The leader holds up,or points to, an object in the classroom(a desk, a chair, a book or a marker) and asks What is this? The other students in the group respond using It is a ... You can ask one group respond using It is a... You can ask one group to come to the front of the class and model the dialogue. You can be the leader. Give the students a few minutes to play the game in their groups. Remind the students to take turns being the leader. 4. Let’s play! First, let the students listen to the whole chant on the audiotape. Write the words to the chant on the blackboard. Play the audiotape again and point to each word on the blackboard as the chant is played. Without the audiotape,touch each word and say it. Have the students repeat the words after you as you touch them again. Do this again, but one line at a time. Then, do this again with each verse. Play the audiotape again and point to each word on the blackboard as the students chant along with the audiotape. Demonstrate the chant with the actions, one line at a time.
