1. Teaching aims and demands

(1). Knowledge objects 1) To practice matching sentences with sentence gaps in a text. 2) To practice vocabulary related to work and jobs. 3) To practice collocations (verb noun, verb adverb, verb adjective)

(2). Ability objects 1) To develop strategies for working out meaning when reading. 2) To develop word attack skills to cope with new vocabulary and phrase verbs. 3) To practice asking for and giving personal information. (3).

Emotion objects

To stimulate students’ enthusiasm of studying hard after they learned the present job and employment situation.

2 .Teaching keys and difficulties (1) Teaching important points:

1). Develop the ability of skimming and scanning； 2). Learn to use pictures and title etc. to predict the main information of the passage；

3). Express opinions orally and bravely; 4). Grammar and language points. (2) Teaching difficult points: 1). How to find the contextual connections with reading strategies; 2). How to use background information to help understand the main idea of the text.

3 .Teaching methods and aids: Teaching aids: Computer, overhead projector, PPT, tape Teaching method: role play, group work, using the culture and background knowledge to read, using prediction reading strategy.

4. Course number We will finish this lesson in 3 classes. This is the reading class.

5. Teaching procedures Step1. Lead-in 1. Show a short play about recruitment. Let the students understand today's social fierce competition in the workplace, and the content of the course as well.

2. Let the students express their feelings in English.

Step2. Listening comprehensions 1. Present the students the questions before listening to the text What have changed in job areas in recent years? What skills and qualities the author suggests us have in the passage? Finish the gap-filling practice with the reading strategies introduced on page 28.

2. Let the students to listen to the tape and then answer the questions.

Step3. Fast reading Read the passage as quickly as they can. Use the question and answer activity to help them get the main idea of each paragraph, then ask them to use their own words to conclude the main ideas of each paragraph.

Step4. Intensive reading

1. Read the passage carefully again and answer some detailed questions. 1). What is “future shock”?

The speed of change that affects people’s lives and work.

2). What is one of the job areas of the future?

The media, information, and technology.

3). How will jobs change?

People will have different contracts, not work for one company. 4). How will companies change?

They will be organized more democratically.

5). What skills and personal qualities will people need?

Communication skills, computer skills, and working with people from different cultures.

Step5. Retell the passage 1. List out the general idea of each paragraph which the students have concluded in fast reading.

2. Encouraging students to use their own words to retell the passage according to the general idea.

Step6. Language points Show the important words phrases and sentences which the students need to learn in this passage on the screen one by one. Then give them the right usages of these new language points. What’s more, ask students to make sentences by using these newly learnt words and phrases.

Step7. Pair work or individual role-play Discussion: “What can we do now to master the skills and qualities required in our future careers?”

Step8. Summary Go through the important points and difficult points of this lesson with the students once again.
