I. Background Analysis

a. The analysis of Teaching Materials

Reading plays a very important role in each unit because it is the key to obtain the targeted vocabularies and sentence structure as well as grammar. In this period, the auothor tells us about the changes of her impressions on Jenny. Teaching activities will focus on grasping some adjectives describing a person’s attitudes and feelings, also on the practise of reading strategies.After this period, students will have a better understanding of some important words and expressions and acquire some reading skills, and meanwhile, learn not to judge a person too hastily.

b. The analysis of learners.

As senior one students, they have acquired some basic knowledge about English. However, they are short of vocabularies and weak in grammar, so they dare not to express themselves. Also their abilities to use reading strategies still need to be further developed. But at this age, they are very active and are willing to cooperate. Besides, this topic friendship is very closely related to their school life, so they must be eager to participate in the activities I set. II. Teaching Objectives

a. Knowledge goals: By the end of the class, students are expected

1.to master some related words expressions and sentence structures, such as

anxiety, grateful, shorcoming, guilty, glare at, glance at, the last straw, can’t help doing, the more..., the more;

2.to grasp the writer’s changes of impressions aboutJenny.

b. Ability goals: By the end of the class, students are expected

1.to use reading strategies such as scanning，careful reading and summarizing in the reading process to get the main idea and the detailed information.

2.to be able to talk and write about one’s experience of meeting someone for the first time.

c. Emotional and Moral goals: By the end of the class, students are expected to value the importance of friendship and judge a person by his moral character instead of first impressions. III. Teaching key and difficult points
