Definition of small talk Small talk is formal/informal, light/heavy, polite/rude, friendly conversation about important/unimportant things. 4. Video show Show a video for students. After watching it, ask students: is the small talk in the video right or wrong? Have you ever made the same mistake? 5. Group work Ask very group to write down as many safe topics as they can in 2 minutes in a piece of paper. Ask monitor to count and write down every group’s points. Show some topics and ask students which are safe. 6. Pair work Ask two students to act out the small talk given. After students’ acting, ask about one’s feeling.
