The whole lesson will focus on the knowledge on the mentioned plants and how to care for plants.

Teaching procedures: I.

Pre-task preparation: 1.

Review five plants and surprising facts mentioned in Reading. 2.

Name more plants in English. 3.

Match national flowers with the countries.

II.

While-task procedure: 1.

Listen to the recording to know the topic of the passage. Three plants are suggested planting：common white jasmine, Yulan magnolia and golden ball cactus. 2.

Help students understand the passage by reading, answering questions.

3.

Introduce more information about the cactus by students. Encourage students to associate the cactus with a kind of spirit. 4.

Match the description with the plants. 5.

Work in pairs: ‘Which plant do you prefer to grow?’

III.

Post-task activities: Work in groups to have a discussion: ‘What can we do to care for plants?’

IV.

Assignment: Design a poster to call on people to care for plants.

学会关爱植物

(补充阅读) 教学目标：

1.

扩大有关植物的词汇量；理解课文内容; 2.

培养阅读技能与口语表达能力; 3. 激发学生关爱植物，提高环保意识。

教学重点：

介绍一些植物的相关知识，引导学生关爱植物。

教学过程：

一．“任务前”的准备：

1. 复习本单元阅读课文中提到的五种植物，列举一些令人惊叹的事实：王莲的浮叶上可站人；一棵榕树可发展到占地面积超过一个足球场；荷花的根和种子在一些亚洲国家被用作菜肴；最年长的狐尾松树达4500年树龄。

2. 复习说出更多植物的英文名称。

3. 植物与国名配对(国花)。

二．“任务中”的教学：

1. 听全文录音，了解课文主题：介绍三种适合在家种植的植物，即茉莉花、白玉兰和仙人掌。

2. 通过学生朗读、问答、补充介绍有关知识等方法，帮助学生理解课文。

3. 鼓励学生从鲜人掌的特性联想到一种人们值得学习的精神。

4. 反馈练习：植物的描述和植物名称进行配对。

5. 两人一组交流：如果让你从这三种植物中选一种植物，你更喜欢种那种植物？为什么？

四．“任务后”的活动：

小组讨论：我们可以做些什么来关爱植物？

五．作业：

设计一份海报，唤起人们对植物的关爱。
