Lesson plan: Mickey Monkey ( period 1 ) Topic: Mickey Monkey Learning Objectives: 1. To use the way of picture tour to help students predict and make their own story.

2. To get the main idea of the story.

3. To summarize the story

Task: Give a summary of the first part of story in groups of four.

Difficulties: (1) How to use one sentence to tell the main idea of each plot.

(2) For grade three students, sometimes they don’t have enough vocabulary or language patterns to describe the pictures or express their predictions about the story.

Background Analysis: Since it is such a long story, we divide it into two periods. Students learn to make predictions and choose the topic sentence of each part after reading.

METHODS

Activity 1 S: Listen to the song and name the different kinds of shops in the song.

e.g. shoe shop, candy shop, supermarket …

Sn: Guess what the story about? Activity 1 T:The title of the story is the Mickey Monkey. T: Is this the boy’s name? Who else in our story today? T: How do they feel? T: Where are they now? Where is Dad going? T: What do they buy in the supermarket? S1-5: Have a picture talk.

Activity 2 T: Is the story really like that? Take out EX paper 1, let’s read and find out.

S: Read Picture 1. T: Can I say ‘Sam likes shopping’?

But he still goes to the supermarket with Dad. Why? S1: He wants to buy some sweets.
