1、指导思想

首先，阅读不仅仅是学生获取信息的重要手段，也是学生提升英语听、说、读、写能力的重要途径。《普通高中英语课程标准（2017年版）》指出，普通高中英语课程作为一门学习及运用英语语言的课程，具有重要的育人功能，旨在发展学生的语言能力、文化意识、思维品质和学习能力等英语学科核心素养。在英语教学环节中，通过阅读可以打开学生的思维，拓宽他们的知识面，同时在阅读过程中培养他们的文化意识，锻炼日常交流的能力。本模块的Small Talk 正是具有这样的功。其次，对于闲谈的概念我们可以这样来描述：Small talk is a casual form of conversation that "breaks the ice" or fills an awkward silence between people. Even though you may feel shy using your second language, it is sometimes considered rude to say nothing. Just as there are certain times when small talk is appropriate, there are also certain topics that people often discuss during these moments.最后，教师要引导学生关注其五要素：Who, What, Where, When, Why? ；关注Conversation Starters（开场白）；熟悉某些常用特定场合的对话、交谈的话题。

2、教学目标（Teaching Goals）

Knowledge and skills: Learn more new words and phrases Read to know the topics of small talk in the USA Process and methods: Train students’ ability of reading with strategies Get to know the methods of understanding the passage Emotion and value: Make students be aware of the importance of having a proper small talk Through the use of the modern teaching methods，make the students get to know how to start a small talk 3、教学重难点

Teaching important points: Learn the new words and phrases by heart Encourage students to express themselves freely Teaching difficult points: Find out the detailed information from the passage 二、教学准备（Teaching preparations）

首先精读文章，认真仔细研读教材内容。其次指导学生课前的role play，并通过网上搜索和图片收集，准备好相关的教学场景介绍。再次，根据已有资源，制作教学课件，准备教学工具（Teaching tools）: A multi-media computer, the textbook and a blackboard 三、教学过程（Teaching Procedures）

Step1 Warming up(lead-in)

Warm up by a role play: The students show a play directed by themselves：（The role play is based on the passage they have learned last class：READING AND VOCABULARY：The Wrong Kind of Small Talk.It includes different cases when Esther cannot have an appropriate small talk.) Through the play, the teacher emphasizes the importance of choosing the proper topics while having a small talk with others and then brings up the title. Step 2 Before reading 1) Go over the word list for this passage, paying attention to the meanings of the words, the relationship between their pronunciation and spelling. 2) Find out and underline the useful phrases and expressions on the screen. 3) Read the passage“Making Friends in the USA”individually to get to know the main idea of the passage and divide the whole passage into two parts. Step 3 While reading 1) Analyze the passage together to get to know the main content. 2) Through fast-reading the passage, decide whether the following sentences True of False. 1.You can ask about families, what people do and like, etc..( ) 2. It’s OK to talk about religion and politics.( ) 3. You shouldn’t talk about your feelings.( ) 4.Americans will talk about some safe topics.( ) 5. Make sure you talk about the weather or give compliments.( ) 6. You can talk about people’s age and their income.( ) The answers: TFFTTF 3) Choose the best answers for the activity5 shown on the screen. 4) Read the text and complete the passage with proper words or phrases. Discussion: 1. Are there any topics that you think you will use in the future? 2. What are some of the usual small talk topics in China? Step 5 questioning If you are writing a passage about making friends in China，what you will talk about？

Ask some students list some topics they will talk about and the teacher does some assessment. Step 6 Conclusion and homework 1.Copy all the useful expressions into your Expression Book. 2.Preview the cultural corner.

在本次的教学实践中，我们基本上达到预期的教学效果，尤其是在导入阶段的角色扮演，让学生可以身临其境，感受不同语言的魅力的同时，也能够复习我们以前学过的知识，同时也有助于提升整个课堂的教学氛围。

但是也有一些不足，在让同学们自主总结的过程中，没有充分带动学生的积极性，以至于部分学生可能跟不上课堂的节奏，没有充分照顾到每个学生的学情。

最后，在以后的教学过程中，要多与学生互动，让他们积极融入课堂，在教学设计上多一些新思路，新方法，提高学生的兴趣。
