Unit 4 Friend or enemy? Teaching objectives: 1、Enable students to practice the skill of skimming and scanning. 2、Invite students to know some different creatures in nature. 3、Arouse students’ awareness of protecting creatures in nature.
Teaching procedures: Lead-in 1.
Show some pictures of different animals and invite students to recognize what they are. 2.
Encourage students to find some basic information about spiders. Skimming 1.
Encourage students to read the title and the first and the last eleven lines of the passage and answer these questions. 1). What is the Friend or Enemy mentioned in the title? 2) Whose friend is it? 3)And whose enemy? 2. Ask students to read the passage quickly and match the main ideas with the relevant paragraphs. Scanning 1.
Ask students to read para1-5 carefully and answer these questions. 1)What is
Betty’s response to the sight of a spider? 2) What does Winston think of spiders? 2. Ask students to read the para6-10 and fill in the table. 3.Invite students to read the rest part of the passage and find the usage of spider silk and poison. Post reading 1.
Invite students to do the role play according to the following pattern.
Assignment Practice the dialogue after class. Find other animals which are useful to the human beings. And collect in which aspects they are useful.
