Lesson 21 At the Market Teaching aims:

1. Knowledge Objects

(1) Words：market, grape, carrot, cabbage ,watermelon, sweet, pear

(2) Phrases and sentences:

take…to…, Let’s buy … at the market.

(3)Grammar: Countable and Uncountable Nouns

(1) How to talk about likes and dislikes in English. (2) To develop Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking.

(3) To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups.

3. Moral Objects (1) Arouse their interest in learning English. (2) Know more about differences of food and drink culture between China and Western countries.

Teaching important points：To know about some fruit and vegetables, and learn how to talk about likes and dislikes in English.

Teaching Steps:

Step 1.Revision 1)

To teach the new words. Show the pictures of the fruit and vegetables on the

screen. Ask and answer about the fruit and vegetables, make sure the students can say the names of theirs.

In this step, point to the Countable Nouns and Uncountable Nouns.

Let the students read the new words after the teacher again and again. Then do Let’s Do It! No.3 Step3. Listen Ask the students to turn to Page 55. Play the audiotape for Lesson 21. Then ask them to do “Let’s Do It! No.1 fill in the blanks. Play it again if necessary. Check the answers.

Step4.Read and practice

1) Read the sentences in Let’s Do It! No.2 first and ask Ss to complete it. We will check the answers together.

2）Read the dialogue after the tape. Then read the dialogue in role play.

. Step5. Language points

Can you find the important sentences? Let’s Ss read the dialogue again. Explain if necessary. Then let Ss make some similar sentences. Step6. Practice

Instruct the students as follows:

Work in small groups to complete Let’s Do It! No.4.

Make a chart like the one on Page 55 of Student Book. Interview your group

members. Ask them what fruits and vegetables they like and what ones they don’t like. Practise the dialogue:

A. Do you like pears?

B. Yes, I do./Yes, I like them very much.

A. Does he/she like pears?

C. Yes, he/she does/ Yes, he/she likes them very much.

A. Do you like grapes?

B. No, I don’t.

A. Does he/she like grapes?

C. No, he/she doesn’t. We should eat more fruit and vegetables. Don’t eat too much meat. It’s good for our health . Step7. Exercises (shown on the screen)
