Teaching material analysis. Teaching content is PEP Primary English book6 Unit5 B Let’s learn & Let’s play. This part intends to let students to know how to use present progressive to express sb is doing sth and know when to use it. Teaching material is based on an animal’s different actions at different time or situation. In this way, students can experience when we can use present progressive expressions.

Analysis of students. Targeted students have learned English for nearly 3 years. They have got vocabulary of verbs or phrases and know how to make a sentence with verbs or verb phrases. III.

Teaching targets 1.

Ss can master -ing form of five words: sleeping, eating, drinking, climbing, jumping, playing. 2.

Ss can use -ing form to express what they are doing in real situations. What is/are___ doing? ______am/is/are______.

Students learn to sing a song “What are you doing?”

Students can master new words and know how to add -ing for words. 2.

Students can correctly express sb is doing sth. V.

Teaching procedures. 1.

Warm-up and lead-in Greeting with Ss: Good morning, boys and girls. Nice to meet you today. Are you happy today? Engjoy a song “What are you doing?”--Ss try to act and sing with the song. Introduce two mystery friends to Ss.--Arouse Ss’ interest. Ss guess the first friend according to footprint. 2.

Presentation A day of Fido---New words teaching and practice

In the morning, Fido is sleeping in the living room.

(Tr: What is Fido doing?

Ss: Fido is sleeping in the living room.) Ss follow the tape and act “sleeping”.---single & group check--> group act: Tr& Ss ask and answer.

What are they doing? They are sleeping. eat-eating

It’s 9 o’clock. What is he doing now? He is eating in the kitchen. Ss observe the picture and answer with present progressive. Practice: Ss say”eating”, Tr acts.-->Tr says and Ss act. I am eating.-->Tr: What are you doing?

Ss: (Act and say) I am eating? drink-drinking It’s 9:30. Picture covered and Ss guess: What is he doing now? Is he...? S1, S2 guesses. Picture uncovered and Ss judge. Ss listen to standard pronunciation and repeat. Tr: What is he doing?

Ss: He is drinking in the kitchen. Practice: Tr drinks water and asks”What is Miss Li doing?” Ss: Miss Li is drinking. Ss open their water bottle and drink water. Tr & Ss: What are they doing?

They are drinking. climb-climbing

In the afternoon, Fido goes to the nature park.

Tr: What is he doing now? (Picture: Fido is climbing the mountain) PPT shows word”climb-climbing” and play standard pronunciation. Tr leads Ss to master the pronouncing method of “climb-climbing”. Tr: Is he climbing?

Ss: Yes. Tr: (Act climbing the wall.) What is Miss Li doing? Ss: Miss Li is climbing. S1 acts and say: climbing, climbing, I am climbing. Tr: What is she doing?

Ss: She is climbing. Ss read “climbing” and act-->climbing, climbing, I am climbing. jump-jumping

In the park, Fido meets his friends. They are rabbits. Guess: What are the rabbits doing? Are they...？

Picture showing and Ss say: They are jumping. Tips: up-->ump-->jump Ss follow the tape and read “jumping”. Tr: Acting”jumping” and asking: What is Miss Li doing? Ss: Miss Li is jumping. S1-S8: Acting and say”Jumping, jumping, I am jumping.”

Tr: What are they doing? Ss: They are jumping. play-playing Picture: Fido and rabbits are playing football.

Ss observe the picture and guess”What are they doing?”

Ss: They are playing. Tr: Are they playing basketball? Ss: No, they aren’t. They are playing football with each other. each other beach-->each

Chant: Each other, each other, they are playing football with each other. Tr is dancing with S1: We are dancing with each other. Tr shows picture, Ss stand up, act and chant: Each other, each other, we are jumping with each other. Each other, each other, we are dancing with each other. Review of a day of Fido. PPT presents picture-->Ss recall the sentences. Eg, In the morning, Fido is sleeping in the living room.

At 9 o’clock, he is eating in the kitchen. At 9:30, Fido is drinking

Fido is climbing the mountain.

Rabbits are jumping. They are playing football with each other.

Game: Act and guess. S1 picks a word card and acts out. Tr guesses, Ss give response. Pair1, Group2
