Ⅵ.Teaching steps

Step 1. Warming up 1.

Greetings and introduce myself. 2.

Let some students introduce themselves and tell others who are their good friends. 3.

Introduce the teacher’s good friends---- 26 letters. 4.

Tell the sounds of “a,b,c” to tell Ss that each letter has a sound. 5.

Ss listen and sing the “ABC chant” song together. 6.

Check some letters’ sounds again, let Ss say.

Step 2. Presentation 1.

Let Ss watch the screen, and tell the story of “The shark”. 2.

Ask Ss to use the red letters to work out the question: What is the dark shape in the sea? 3.

Use some familiar words they have learned with “sh” and “ar” to help Ss conclude the sounds, then help them read the word “shark”.

Give an interesting explanation that why “sh” says / ʃ

/ to help them remember it easily.

Step 3. Practice Give some new words with “sh” and let Ss try to read them one by one.

Step 4. story 1.

Show a short passage on the screen, help Ss recall the former part of the story and fill in the blanks. 2.

Show the latter part of the story, and lead Ss to read it. 3.

Ask Ss to answer the two questions: What animals do I see in my dream? What do they wear? 4.

Check the answers together. 5.

Help Ss recall the story and write down the key words on the blackboard. 5.

Use the words with “ch” to help Ss conclude the sounds, then lead them to read the words again.

Step 5. Practice 1.

Give some new words with “ch” and let Ss try to read them one by one. 2.

Listening text: the teacher reads the words, Ss fill in the blanks on the paper.

Read after the tape on Page 26. 2. Find and read some words with sh and ch.

Ⅸ. Reflection I use an easy chant to help Ss recall the sounds of each letter. It is easy and interesting for them to master, so they can read new words with sh and ch much more easily.
