The natural world—Learn to care for plants 一、教材分析

本单元主题为“呵护植物，保护自然”，“Learn to care for plants”是摘自报纸上的一篇阅读文章。本文主要详解三种植物：茉莉花、玉兰花和仙人掌。学生不仅可以学会如何去呵护植物，同时也可以从中意识到园艺的重要性，具有较强的现实意义。

本文属说明类的文章，含有对植物形态特征、适合生长的条件、栽培技术、主要用途等的解说，对三种植物的介绍独立成段。课文配有一副玉兰花插图，此花莹洁清丽，令人心旷神怡又令人心生怜爱，因此了解如何呵护花朵很有必要，引出主题。

课文结构清晰，文本语言简练，篇幅不长，容易阅读。但说明类的文章，生单词比较多，而且花名以及个别生词读起来有点难度，可能对学生表达自己的观点带来困难。

二、学情分析

这篇文章是本单元的More reading, 在Reading中学生对此类文章已有一定的了解。对文章从哪几方面对植物进行介绍已经非常清楚。此外，学生从高一上学期就开始训练skimming、scanning、detailed reading的阅读技能，对这些阅读技巧应该非常熟悉了，所以在阅读前，扫除个别生单词障碍后，对于理解这篇文章对高一学生来讲并不难，并且容易意识到园艺的重要性。

三、教学整体设计思路

I. Pre-reading: 1. 通过提问，复习Reading课文中提到过的六种植物。然后继续通过植物图片展示，扫除阅读课文中几个生词障碍，最后引出“Jasmine”，“Yulan Magnolia”和“cactus”。

2. 让学生预测阅读文章的体裁及内容。

II. While-reading:

1. 让学生运用skimming的阅读技巧扫读课文，了解三种植物大致信息。

2. 让学生细读每段并快速找到相关信息来完成不同形式的流程图。同时，教师提出一些帮助学生完成流程图的问题。并且在阅读中，通过问题的设计，帮助学生理解并输入文本信息，为输出做好准备工作。

III. Post-reading:

1. 朗读黑板上板书的重点词汇，可以巩固所学，为输出做好准备。

2. 通过对话，让学生分享同桌所喜欢的一种植物，不仅可以培养学生善于倾听的习惯，此外还可为学生提供口语表达的机会。
