Good and Bad

Warm-up and Lead-in 1.

Enjoy a song about friends. 2.

Self-introduction: I want to you to be my friend. Do you want to be my friend? Why do you want to be my friend? 3.

I have two friends: Good and Bad. Good always think about the good things, but bad just think about the bad.

Two examples to show good and bad. Tree: Look, the tree is so big and green. No, it’s too thin. Flower: Look, the flower is so beautiful and fresh. No, it’s too small. Let Ss act as Good and Bad about the things in the world.

II.

Presentation and practice

1.

Good has a pet dog. He wants to make a new friend, too. Enjoy the story. Listen and circle: What animals do you hear? Check the answers: dog, cat, elephant, butterfly and turtle.

Read picture1-3 and answer the question. Does Cat like Elephant? Why or why not? Does Dog like Elephant? Why or why not? Check the answers together. Then read after the tape. Invite Ss to cooperate with T and act the story out. Then ask another group and act.

Read picture4-7 and fill in the chart. Check the answer together. Listen again and read along.

Choose and act. Ask Ss to choose picture4,5 or 6,7 and act. Work in group of three. Then ask ss to act the story.

III.

Extension

1.

The dod doesn’t want elephant, butterfly or turtle. But we have more animals. Can you make a new dialogue and act as cat and dog. Discuss with partner and then act.

So after all this, the dog still has no friends. Let’s see what does the cat say? Play the tape and ask Ss to read. The dog wants cat to be his friend. What will the cat say? Maybe she will say: No, I’m too thin. Dog: But you’re very kind. I like to talk with you. Maybe she will say: No, I’m too small. Dog: But you’re very clever. I like to play football with you. What will the cat say? Can you discuss with your partner and guess? 3.

So finally, the dog knows to think about the good things. So the cat

says: Let’s be friends. 4.

All the animals have good things and bad things. Not just the animals, all the things have good things and bad things. Let’s see. Three examples about good and bad. Look at us. For example, look at me. I’m not tall. I’m not smart. But I can share English and happiness with you. So please remember: Look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
