Ⅰ. Analysis of the Teaching Material

This topic is mainly about the relevant vocabulary about face, the content is close to students’ daily life, which can provide students a real language situation. This lesson covers four parts: What is it, Let’s play, Left or right and Let’s chant. In the part of What is it , students will learn the relevant vocabulary about face, such as “face”,“hair”, “eye”, “nose”, “ear”

and “mouth”. In the part of Let’s play, teacher guide students to play the game: I say you do. In the part of Left or right, students can distinguish the direction clearly. In the part of Let’s chant, students can chant while do the correspondent action. The main idea of this lesson is to help students to introduce their face properly and distinguish the direction.

Ⅱ.Analysis of the Students Students in Grade 3 are active to imitate and show themselves. What teachers need to do is to raise their enthusiasm in learning English. Since students have learned several lessons before, this provides convenience and foundation for teacher to lead in the parts of face. By considering of encouraging every student to participate activities, I will adopt different teaching methods and learning methods to help them learn to play and play to learn.

Ⅲ.Teaching Objectives Based on the new curriculum standard requirements, the analysis of the teaching material and the analysis of the students, I divide the teaching objectives into three parts. a) Knowledge objective is to grasp the new words “face”,“hair”,

“eye”, “nose”, “ear”

and “mouth”. Meanwhile, enable students to distinguish the direction and express in English. b) Ability objective is to foster students’ communicative ability and cooperative ability in real situations. c) Emotional objective is to arouse students’ learning interests and form the good habit of speaking English and showing themselves.

Ⅳ.Teaching Key Points & Difficult Points Teaching key points include the new vocabularies. While teaching difficult points are to distinguish between left and right and the usage of singular and plural forms of nouns: It’s a /an ______.They are _____s.

Ⅴ.Teaching Methods & Learning Methods According to students’ physical and mental characteristics, I’ll use direct teaching method to help them memorize the new vocabularies vividly, situational teaching method to practice the new sentence pattern and game teaching method to consolidate. In order to implement English core competence of students, I prefer to cultivate their communicative ability and cooperative ability.

Ⅵ.Teaching Aids To complete my teaching, I’ll use vocabulary cards, PowerPoint

and multimedia as the teaching aids.

Ⅶ.Teaching Process Step 1. Warm up 1. Greetings. Free talk:

I feel/I’m... 2. Invite students to sing the song: If you are happy and you know it. Purpose: Begin the class with old knowledge can help students

review what they’ve learned in last lesson and give students confidence to explore further.

Step 2. Lead in Draw a big face on the blackboard. Purpose: Build a relaxed and joyful atmosphere to learn. Students observe the face can arouse their learning enthusiasm and help them recognize the new vocabulary vividly.

Step 3. Presentation 1. While drawing the face, teacher analyzes the face step by step. T: Look! What is it? Ss: 脸。

T: Great! We can say “face” in English. Ss: Face. 2. Teach the other words in the same way.

3. Show the picture of What is it. Ask students open the book and turn to page of 38. a) Teacher plays the video of What is it and students try to imitate. b) Teacher asks students by the sentence pattern.

They’re ...s. c) Review the usage of “a/an”. E.g.:

an apple, an eraser, an egg, an arm (a,e,i,o,u) d) Interpret the usage of singular and plural forms of nouns.

E.g.:

a ear, two ears.

Purpose: Draw a face can arouse students’ curiosity, students will devote themselves to learn new knowledge naturally. With given language situation students are more willing to communicate and help them improve communicative ability.

Step 4. Practice Let’s play a) Teacher explains how to play the game “ I say you do”.

b) Teacher says students do. c) Students work in pairs.

Invite some students to perform. Purpose: Through this activity to mobilize students’ enthusiasm to participate in and exercise their courage.

Step 5. Consolidation Left or right: 1. Ask an easy question: T: How many hands do you have?

Ss: Two. 2. Introduce the new words: left and right. 3. Lead students to experience the opposite of the direction. 4. Activity: Point to... Let’s chant: 1. Demonstrate the meaning of the song. 2. Listen to the first verse of the song, follow to sing and do actions. 3. In the next verse, replace with other phrases. 4. Students chant the whole song together.

Purpose: Students consolidate the knowledge by learning to sing a song. In this way, students' enthusiasm can be mobilized and self-confidence will be enhanced. Only learning English with interests and confidence can yield twice the result with half the effort.

Step 6. Summary Encourage students to summarize what they’ve learned in this lesson. Guide them to form the good habit of speaking English and showing themselves.
