According to New English Curriculum Standards, we should develop Ss’ ability of autonomous learning and cooperative learning. Meanwhile, we should also improve Ss’ ability of getting information and develop their comprehensive language competence and positive attitudes. Ss are the masters of learning. Student-centered teaching with the teacher as a guide should be adopted in English teaching.

Analysis of the teaching material

The topic of this unit is Launching your career, and this class is mainly about how to write a letter of application, and it is designed to improve Ss’ writing skills. In order to make it more interesting and arouse Ss' interest in English learning, I select a teaching material similar to that of the textbook. First, Ss are going to find out the structure of this kind of letter by observing the sample writing. And then they are going to read the sample writing to find some useful words and expressions related to the letter of application, which are of great help in their writing. Meanwhile, they will be guided by the teacher to add more similar expressions. Finally, Ss will be able to write a letter of application.

This class plays an important part in the whole unit because it offers Ss an opportunity to output what they have learned in this unit.

Analysis of the Ss

The teaching objects are all Ss from Grade two, some of whom have “classroom anxiety” in English class. That is to say, they are not confident enough to speak English and answer questions. Thus, I plan to organize some group teaching activities such as discussion, video-sharing and so on, through which Ss will be able to learn how to cooperate with others and learn from each other, thus building up their confidence, cultivating their sense of cooperation and helping them experience the happiness of development.

Teaching Aims

At the end of the class, the majority of the Ss will be able to

1. Learn some useful expressions related to a letter of application and some strategies for writing this kind of letter.

2. Improve their writing ability by observing and writing.

3. Enjoy the process of learning English by working together and realize the

importance of having dreams and working hard in launching their careers.

Teaching Procedures

(T: teacher Ss: students DP: design purpose) Step 1 Lead-in Have a greeting to Ss and play a guessing game which is about different jobs in order to arouse Ss’ interests and introduce the topic: learn to write an application letter. [DP] :To arouse Ss’ interests and introduce the topic.

Step 2 Speaking & sharing

What kind of career/job would you like to take in the future? Why?

[DP]: Get the Ss into the topic.

Step 3 Before-Writing (Observing and Discovering)

In this part, Ss will be shown a sample writing about a letter of application. Then they will be guided to finish the following two tasks: find the structure &find the person and tense that are used in the writing. Ss will brainstorm some useful expressions and sentence patterns from four aspects which contain ability, personality, confidence and work experience. [DP]: To help the Ss master the general structure and some useful expressions of application letter, both of which will be of great help in their writing in the next part.

At the same time, Ss will grasp some useful expressions and sentence patterns.

Step 4 While-Writing

Ss are asked to write a letter of application according to the writing task given below.

[DP] To guide Ss to master how to use what they have learned to write a good letter of application. Step 5 Post-writing In this part, Ss will be encouraged to share their article and polish their article in their own groups. [DP] To help Ss have a further understanding of what we should pay attention to when we write a letter of application and how to check and polish the article. Meanwhile, try to cultivate their sense of cooperation and help them experience the happiness of development. Step 6 Summary Summarize what we have learned this class. Step 7 Homework Polish your writing after class with the help of your group members and get well

prepared to share your articles with us tomorrow. Step 8 Video-sharing At the end of the class, share Ss with a video called Dream it possible, which can surely makes Ss inspired and are willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. [DP] This video can encourage SS to bravely hold on to their dreams, gradually improve themselves and try to launch their career and make their dreams come true, thus helping them build up the correct values and views on life.

Teaching Reflection 本节课基本顺利的完成了课前设定的教学目标。从知识目标来看，学生通过观察、阅读范文掌握了最基本的相关表达及此类信件的结构，这在一定程度上作为“输入”也为后面的写，即“输出”做好了铺垫。从能力目标来看，大部分学生都在知识目标达成的基础上进一步提高了他们的写作技能，并顺利完成了多要求的申请信的写作。从情感价值观目标来看，学生通过在课堂上的合作、探究，享受到了团队合作的重要性，体验到了发展的快乐。尤其是通过最后的励志视频，让学生懂得了要想开启自己的事业生涯、实现自己的梦想，我们就一定要坚持我们的梦想，一定要去追逐、去前进、去改变！这个目标既是这节课的主题升华，也同时将本单元的话题上升到了一个高度。

亮 点：

课前激励环节，鼓励学生积极、自信、合作；展示学习目标，让学生明确本节课的学习任务；巧妙地融合了先进的信息化技术，让这节课更加有活力！ 不足之处：但由于全班56个学生，学生的水平参差不齐，虽然通过小组活动能提高他们的积极性，但还是有个别学生在活动中相对被动，接下来我将继续探索更加适合他们的教学方法，提高其英语学习的兴趣。
