Type of lesson:Writing Teaching aids: PPT, textbook, and blackboard Lesson duration: 40 minutes Teaching methods Task-based language teaching Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT), also known as task-based instruction (TBI), focuses on the use of authentic language and on asking students to do meaningful tasks using the target language. In this lesson, students follow the teacher’s introduction to finish the tasks one by one. Situational approach

Situational approach is a teaching method which demands the teacher set some certain situations to make students learn the knowledge more easily. Contents

Focal points:

Writing skills such as brainstorming, outline. Vocabulay and phrases related to friend: A friend in need is a friend in deed, A life without a friend is a life without a sun. Write a composition after discussion.

Difficult points: Students may find it hard to Write a composition in 10 min. Discuss how to get on well with their friends. Translate the quotes into Chinese or English. Teaching objectives a. Instructional objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to (1) Know some quotes about friends, such as A friend in need, a friend in deed.

(2) Know how to brainstorm and analyse a writing task. (3) Discuss and share with group members and classmates to finish some difficult tasks. b. Educational objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to (1) Know the friendship is really precious and valuable to them (2) Love and respect their friends. (3) Apply the writing skills in later studies.

Teaching procedure and time allotment Stage 1 Getting ready for learning(2 minutes) Purpose: This stage aims create a pleasant atmosphere, arouse students’ interest to this lesson.

Step 1 greeting(1 minute) Step 2 sing a song (1 minute) The teacher will sing the song for the students. Auld Lang Syne(友谊地久天长)

For auld lang syne. Stage 2 Pre-writing(5 minutes) Purpose: It intends to arouse students’ interest about the lesson and get them ready on following study.

A friend is — someone who understands our silence. — a watch that beats true all the time and never runs down. — the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out.

Stage 3 While-writing(25 minutes) Step 1 Translation(7 minutes) Purpose: This step intends to let students know and accumulate some quotes about friends,which they can use in later writing task.

Students work in group to translate these quotes and share to all classmates. 1. 多个朋友多条路。

2. 千金易得, 一友难求。

3. 在家靠父母，出门靠朋友。

4. A friend in need is a friend indeed. 5. A friend is easier lost than found

6. A life without a friend is a life without a sun.

7. A friend without fault can never be found.

Step 2 Discussion(9 minutes) Purpose: It aims to give students a chance to express , share their ideas and know others’

thoughts. Also, through the discussion topic,which is closely related to the composition, get them ready for later writing task. Students work in groups to discuss: How to get along well with their friend and make their friendship be everlasting? Step 3 Writing(9 minutes) 古语有云：“有朋自远方来，

Stage 4 Post-writing(6 minutes) Purpose: It provide a chance for students to use the new expressions in a

real situation, share their compositions and correct the mistakes and encourage them to learn some usefull expressions from their classmates. Step 1 Correcting(2 minutes) Students exchange their compositions with each other and find out some grammar mistakes. Step 2 Sharing(4 minutes) Students share the compositions to all classmates. Stage 5 Summing up( 1 minute) Purpose: This stage helps to consolidate the knowledge and make it well-structured in students’

mind, let them , love , protect, share, hug, cherish and respect their friends. Students read the saying and sing the song auld lang syne together. Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me,
