Analysis of the teaching material

This is a reading and vocabulary lesson. The lesson focuses on comprehending a fantasy story, aiming to let students grasp some skills at reading a story and mastering certain vocabulary related to fantasy literature. The topic of this module is not closely related to students’ real life, but students may have read some similar stories or similar films before, so it is in accord with students’ cognitive level. Thus, it is likely to make students learn in an acquisitive context and build students’ confidence in English learning.

Analysis of the Learners’ Learning Competence:

The topic “Fantasy Literature”

is familiar to Senior II learners. However, what they lack are the vocabulary and expressions related to the description of a story. On the one hand, they may have some knowledge of how a fantasy story usually develops; on the other hand, their thinking may be constrained when certain expressions are not familiar. Teaching Aims: 1.

To develop learners’ reading skills. 2.

To enlarge learners’ vocabulary in fantasy literature. 3.

To help learners learn to use the words and expressions related to the topic. 4.

Activity 1 Fast-reading Invite students to read the passage quickly，find out the characters and the setting, and grasp the main idea and basic structure. Find the characters, the setting, and the sequence of some events and divide the passage into four parts accordingly. Find the answers through individual & cooperative work. To get learners grasp the basic factors of a story, the main idea and basic structure. . To help learners understand the beginning of the story to better understand the background .
