Module 4 The world around us Unit 10 Numbers

Ⅰ. Teaching contents:

This lesson is the first period of Unit 10 in Oxford English Book 3A published by Shanghai Education Press. The topic of this unit is ‘Numbers’.

Ⅱ. Analysis of the students:

We know pupils are children. They are active, curious and fond of chants, games, competitions and various activities. And they are interested in accepting new things. But they are lack of vocabulary and seldom use English to talk with each other. Some students are not active in the class, because they are afraid of making mistakes.

Ⅲ. Teaching aims:

1. Language knowledge:

To learn the new words and sentence patterns.

New words: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.

Sentence patterns: How many boys?

Three boys.

2. Language skills: (1) To train students’ skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. (2) To develop students’ ability of communication. (3) To encourage students to solve the similar problems according to learned knowledge.

3. Sentiment: (1) To understand the importance of numbers. (2) To train students’ consciousness of good co-operation.

Ⅳ. Main points and difficult points: 1. Main points: To grasp the usage of new words. 2. Difficult points: (1)

To understand and use the sentence patterns. (2)

To communicate with others in English.

Step one: Warming-up. 1. Enjoy a video of ten numbers. 2. Sing a song——Ten little paper rabbits.

Step two: Presentation and practice.

Words

1. According to the song, teacher raises a question——How many rabbits? Students will count rabbits: one, two, three…ten. Ten rabbits.

2. Show the numbers one to ten on the screen, then lead students read and spell them. 1

3. Play a game——What’s missing? ( Ask students to find out the missing numbers from one to ten.)

4. Numbers in life. Show some pictures of our life, and ask students to find some numbers in these pictures.

Sentence Patterns

1. Introduce Kitty’s school, and play the cartoon of the text.

2. Listen to the radio in ‘Listen and say’ and read after it. Then show the text on the screen. Ben: How many doors, Kitty? Kitty: One door. Ben: Yes! How many windows? Kitty: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven,

eight, nine, ten. Ten windows. Ben: Yes! How many boys? Kitty: One, two, three. Three boys. Ben: Very good, Kitty! Kitty: Thank you.

Step three: Consolidation——Numbers in our school. Show some videos of our school life, and ask students to answer some questions: How many boys? ( Six boys. ) How many pupils? ( Nine pupils. ) How many trees? ( Seven trees. ) How many teachers? ( One teacher. ) How many windows? ( Two windows. )

Step four: Development. To enjoy a video of the numbers in our daily life, so that students can understand the importance of numbers.
