一．动词的-ing形式作状语的基本用法

动词的-ing形式作状语时，通常都表示主语正在进行的另一动作（即：句

子的主语与动词-ing形式在逻辑上存在主动关系），用来对谓语动词表示的动作加以修饰或作为陪衬，它可表示时间、原因、结果、条件、让步、方式或伴随动作, 相当于相对应的状语从句或and连接的并列句。

e.g. Walking in the street, I met a friend of mine.

Laughing and talking, they went home.

He ran all the way, reaching the school out of breath.

二．为了强调动词-ing形式所表达的意义, 在动词-ing形式短语前可用连

词、介词或副词。

为使动词-ing形式作状语所表达的时间、条件、让步等意思更加明确,可在

动词-ing形式前加上适当的连词when, while, before, after, if, unless, though/although等。

e.g. Be careful when crossing the road. Don’t laugh while eating. 2. 在动词v-ing前可用介词on/upon, 表示“一……就……”。

e.g. On arriving in Beijing, he went to see his uncle. 3. 为强调结果，可在v-ing形式前加副词thus。

e.g. The bus was held up by the snowstorm, thus causing the delay. 试一试: (1). _______ hearing the news, all the pupils jumped with joy.

三．动词-ing形式的否定式

动词-ing形式的否定式通常是在动词-ing前面加否定词not。

e.g. Not knowing what to do, he asked the teacher for advice. 一．翻译下列句子（黑体部分用v-ing形式翻译）
