Students will be able to understand the love between family members and love their own family. TEACHING PREPARATION: Audiotape /Multimedia CD and PPT Flash cards with family members and labels Headdresses and family member cards TEACHING STEPS: Step 1. Greeting 1. Greet the class in a creative way by saying Let’s count down from ten to one to start our class. Ready? Go! Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one! 2. Here’s a gift for you. (A video clip: FAMILY)
Ask: What do you see in this video clip? Students answer: FAMILY (They can answer in Chinese.) Step 2. New Concepts 1.
Show a picture of Big Head Son’s family. (PPT)
The teacher wears a headdress of Big Head Son and say:
Hello, boys and girls, do you know me? My name is 大头儿子. This is my family /father/mother. This is me. Show the students the new words in this lesson: family, father, mother, sister, brother 1)
Read and write the words in the air for many times 2)
Play a word game: do as the teacher say when say the word out. (word cards) 3)
Role play: Li Ming’s family. (PPT) 4)
Play the audiotape as the students follow in their books. 5)
Game: Find out your own family members. (headdresses and family member cards)

Let’s sing Song: The family in our house Ask the students to turn to page 51, Part 2. Go through each panel of the song and talk about what they see in each panel. Read the lyrics for each panel as you go through them and ask the students to say the words aloud . Play the song twice. Teach the song to the students. Have them all stand
and sing the song as best they can. Do not worry if they do not do a great job yet. It is enough if they make some effort. Remember that slowly, over time, things will come together for them in a real and meaningful way. 3.
Let’s do it! 1)
Have the students draw a picture of their own family and label the people in it with the new family vocabulary. 2)
Introduce your family members in pairs with the sentence: This is my family. This is my_________. 3)
When each student has completed the family pictures and labels, they will give a presentation to the whole class. The students then come forward, show each picture and use the structure above. CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING Ask the students to take photos of their family members and introduce to the class.
