everyone:

Today I'm very pleased to have an opportunity to talk about some of my teaching ideas. My topic is EQ:IQ taken from lesson one of unit 13 in Senior High School Module 5 by Beijing Normal University Press. It is made of 3 parts.

Part 1:

My understanding of this lesson

1. This lesson is a reading passage . It plays a very important part in English teaching of this unit. The task of this lesson is to practice reading and there are also some sentences which can be used to practice the grammar.

2. The students should receive some moral education. Let the students understand that succes comes with high EQ, which can be improved.

Something about the students

1. The students have known something about EQ and IQ through the internet and other ways.

2. They are lack of vocabularies and have some difficulty in understanding some long and complex sentences.

Part 2 : Teaching aims and demands

1. Knowledge aim : Understand the main idea of the text.

2. Ability aim : Read the text to develop the students' reading

skills through fast reading and intensive reading.

3. Emotional aim : Make the students' pay attention to improving their EQ, which is the same important as IQ.

Teaching key points and difficult points:

1. Develop the students' reading ability.

2. Help the students the text better , especially some long and complex sentences.

1. Question-and-Answer activity

Part 3 : Teaching procedures

I have designed the following steps to train students' ability of listening , speaking ,reading and writing, especially reding ability.

Step 1. Greetings

Greet the whole class as usual.

Step 2. Warm up and lead-in

1. Talk about IQ and EQ with the students.

2. Finish a questionnaire and find their scores on page 91. Then compare their results with a partner.

Purpose : Arouse the students' interest of study and bring in

the new subject EQ : IQ.

Step 3. Deal with the new words

Review the new words:

predict

deserve

failure

mistaken

association

thus

possibility

disability

entirely

Purpose : Prepare for the reading.

Step 4. Fast reading

There are two passages in this lesson. First read passage 1 and decide which is the main idea:

A. EQ is less important than IQ.

B. EQ is as important or more important than IQ.

C. A person's EQ equals his IQ.

Then read passage 2 to see if EQ can be improved
