Grammar ----The Subjunctive Mood Designer: Lin Huan in Jiayin No. 1 Senior High School Teaching Objectives: 1.

Enable the students to understand the situations of using the subjunctive mood 2. Make students understand and master different structures of the subjunctive mood.

3. Encourage students to make use of the subjunctive mood to practice. Teaching Important and Difficult Points: Learn when and how to use the subjunctive mood correctly. Analysis of students: 1.

Students might find it hard to understand the words connected with grammar.

If the teacher focuses on explaining what the patterns for unreal conditionals mean ,students might find them even harder to understand . Teaching Approaches: 1.

Offering enough language input (including listening and audio materials in which , making students experience using the subjunctive mood in different situations.) 2.

Helping students find out different structures of unreal conditionals of the present and past. Make students conclude them.

Set interesting situations to make students practice –

realizing the “output” of language.

Watch three short films to introduce the situations where the subjunctive mood is applied. Step II

Teaching &Learning

1. We use the subjunctive mood to state a condition or situation that is contrary to the facts.

(1)Show the sentences to the students on the screen, to make students know the present situations are unreal or imaginary. If it were May 1st today, I would stay at home. If I got much money now, I would donate some to people suffering the earthquake. I wish I could speak English as fluently as him. I wish everyday were my birthday. How I wish it weren't raining now ! and write them on the blackboard. (5)

Help students to find out the similarities of this grammar and deepen their understanding in with.../without.../but for... situations and the inversion of subjects and verbs 2.

We use the subjunctive mood to express our good wishes or blessings. 3.

We use the subjunctive mood to make suggestions ,commands or requests. Step Ⅲ

Practice Put what are learned into practice.

1. Finish the exercises on the screen and encourage the students to explain their answers. 2. Invite students to share stories about “If I were a boy/ a girl,.......”

Summary and Homework. Oral practice using the subjunctive mood and exercises in the book. (2)
