The main topic of this unit is different styles, artists and works of the Western and Chinese art in different time periods. The reading passage introduces a short history of Western painting, different styles and their features and the representative artists and their works. The pictures of paintings serve to illustrate some major features of each of the four art movements. The vocabulary of this unit is closely connected with art, which students are curious about and interested in. The language in the reading passage is at a suitable level for students, but they may meet difficulties because specialist vocabulary is used. Ⅱ. Analysis of the students

Students of Senior 2 have learned English for ten years and they have a good foundation in vocabulary and reading comprehension ability, which will

help them successfully understand this reading passage. Everyone desires beauty and students have their own preference and tastes in art, so they are willing to know more and share more with each other about art.

侯德昌，1934年生于河南辉县市孟庄镇，他自幼酷爱书画。1956年考入原中央工艺美术学院，主攻陶瓷美术设计专业，

1961年毕业并留校任教陶瓷美术设计专业。

作品：为申办奥运会主笔创作了百米长卷《中华魂》，为人民大会堂东大厅主笔绘制大型山水画《幽燕金秋图》，为中南海创作了《山永寿松长青》和几幅山水画；为中央军委八一大楼创作巨幅山水画《长城雄关图》等。
