Reading for thinking 三、教学目标：使学生爱上阅读；引导学生如何用批判性思维去阅读，在阅读中学会思考，

1. 通过预测，构建读者对于文本内容的想象

2. 通过阅读真实的书籍材料

教学过程：

Step One: Opening

设计意图：顺序抓住学生的吸引力，进入本节课的主题。

T：

In this module，we have been talking about some sci-fi movies and novels. What amazes us is that some of the author’s imagination in the sci-fi works is becoming more and more possible. Today, I will lead you to a mysterious world——

Brave New World. Please follow me. Close your eyes.

Step Two: Lead-in 设计意图：激活孩子已有的背景知识，通过呈现标题，引导学生预测

学生活动安排：1. Ss follow the teacher’s instructions and meditate what the Brave New World is like.

2. Describe the Brave New World in their own words.

T: (In a low-voice) A Brave New World is waiting for you……

What can you see in the

Brave New World？

（Keep silent for about 1 minute）

T：OK！

Time’s up. Open your eyes and share with us what occurred to you just now? (Invite some students to share their opinions)

Tip: Gracious and nice ladies/ gentlemen / clever and lovely children/kind aged people Everyone is satisfied and happy with a big smile on their face.

Beautiful houses with a big garden When opening the window, you can see a sea of green. People work hard and live a comfortable and peaceful life. There is no starvation/ no bleeding/ no violence/ no war/ no disease …

Conclusion: A nice picture in everyone’s eyes, cause people are always pursuing happiness, peace and harmony.

Step 3 Pre-reading

T: Well! Is our imagination true? Now, I will share an extract from the book, Brave New World, with you. Please read it and think about the two questions. ◆

Is it a happy new world? What makes you think so?

设计意图：通过阅读课文中的节选，体会文字的力量。通过问题的讨论，得出的结论与之前的猜测形成鲜明对比，引起学生思想上的震撼，构成学生进一步阅读的动力。

学生活动：1. Read the extract from the book and answer the two questions.

People are forced to stop thinking by themselves. They’re forced to be happy without any reason.

Conclusion: It seems that the life in the world is contradictory to what its name suggests/ to what we have imagined, while people in the word is very happy.

T: What on earth happened in the world? It’s very fascinating, today, I will introduce the book to you.

Step 4 Reading The title of the book is Brave New World. Please turn to page 69. First, please number each paragraph. Read the passage by yourself and answer the 2 questions. ◆What are the most important features of the society? ◆How many ways the government uses to control people are mentioned？

◆What’s your feelings if you lived in the Brave New World? What makes you think so?
