Everyone mush have childhood friends and there must be some memories deep in our hearts. Also in this passage, we’ll get to know something about the writer and his childhood friend, to share their childhood and memories.

Check the words and expressions on the learning paper.

Reading 1.

Pre-reading: Go through the text quickly and put the sentences in the order they appear in the text.

1). It was the worst loss I have ever experienced.

2). Our neighbors next door had a son, and we grew up together.

3). I’m now back in touch with Danny, and it’s a privilege to call him my friend.

4). We were on good terms with everyone in the village.

5). The first time I lost my best friend, I thought it was the end of the world.

6). He was a very considerate boy someone so young.

7). And then at the age of 14, his parents moved to London.

Careful reading:

1)

Ask students to read the text again and try to find out the answers to the questions.

Questions: grew up together: How did they spend their time together?

Considerate boy: Why did the writer say Danny was a considerate boy?

Be on good terms with: Find some examples to show that they are on good terms with the people in the village.

Moved to London: How did he feel when Danny left?

Back in touch: How does he feel now?

Ask the students to work in groups and exchange their answers to the questions. Try to come up with a more complete and accurate answers. 3.

Post Reading:

1). Choose the best summary according to text: As a child, the writer had a close friend. They played together all the time. Then the friend moved away and the writer was extremely upset. Even today, now they are in touch again, he still finds the memory painful.

2). Cloze test:

Homework Finish the exercises on the learning paper, period 3. 教学反思：本文讲述了童年的朋友和童年趣事，表达作者对友谊的执着，对失去朋友时的痛苦之情。学生在预习的情况下理解文章，回答问题时情况不错，基本可以找到问题的正确答案，或者通过合作探究加深对文章的理解。但是更深层次的理解学生还有问题，比如文章主旨大意的概括，对作者失去朋友时痛苦的心情的理解还不是很到位。以后应加强阅读理解能力以及概括能力的培养。
