After learning, students know how to improve EQ. Teaching important and difficult points: 1.

How to use Reading strategies to get related information. 2.

Students try to use Mind Map to understand what they have learnt. 3.

Students learn to draw their own Mind Map to consolidate knowledge. Teaching Procedures: Step1 Greetings Class begins. Teacher and students greet each other. Step2 Lead-in Use two small tests to introduce today’s topic---EQ:IQ. Step3 Fast reading Students are required to look through the text to the following tasks. 1.

What does IQ stand for? How about EQ? (IQ stands for Intelligence quotient; it tells us how intelligent we are. EQ stands for Emotional quotient; it tells us how well we use our intelligence.) 2.

Find out the main idea of each passage.

(Passage 1Main idea: EQ is as important, or more important than IQ. Passage 2 Main idea: EQ can be improved through education.) Step4 Careful reading Students read the text aloud and carefully under the guidance of a mind map. Then discuss the questions in groups. Time is up and students answer them one by one. Questions: 1.

What’s the common belief about IQ and EQ? 2.

What’s the relationships between IQ and EQ at work? How about at school? 3.

How do you like people with high EQs and low EQs? 4.

Which can be improved, EQ or IQ? In which ways can it be changed? 5.

What are the differences after being introduced to each other both normal students and disabled students? 6.

What conclusion can you draw from the text? By answering these questions, students can understand the text well. Step5 Listening Based on Fast reading and Careful reading, students listen to the tape to have a better understanding of the text. While listening, students should pay attention to their pronunciation, stress and intonation. Step6 Summary A mind map is displayed for students to know the structure of the text and grasp what they have learnt in this period.

Step7 Homework Homework includes two parts: 1. Students design their own mind maps according to the understanding of the text. 2.
