Lesson19 Christmas Is Coming!
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am very glad to give a brief description of my teaching design. Firstly, please allow me to talk about teaching materials. My topic is “Lesson25 Christmas Is Coming!” And it’s for the students of Grade Six. It’s the first lesson of unit4. This lesson introduces one of the most important holiday of western culture—Christmas. The students have certain
English language foundation. They have the ability of collecting the information. The western culture is full of curiosity and desire for them. With the help of information technology, I provide them a real language situation. Then make them reflect the knowledge in this situation.
ⅠHere are the main teaching aims. 1>
The knowledge aims are to enable the students to learn some new words, such as Christmas, Santa, invite, bring, special, lights, and so on. And to master the sentence patterns: Invite somebody to some places. Give somebody something. And they can say something about Christmas. 2>
The ability aims are to enable the students to read and spell the new words and understand the meaning of the new words. They can understand the story of Christmas; and they can say something about Christmas.

The emotion aims are to educate the students to know more about foreign holidays, increase their cross—cultural consciousness and cultivate their thoughts and feelings of love their motherland.
Ⅱ Teaching key points and difficult points. To enable the students to master the new words and express what Christmas is, why Christmas is special in English. To enable the students to say something about how to spend Christmas, such as: inviting others, exchanging gifts, singing Christmas songs. Ⅲ Teaching steps 1>
Warming up and leading in Greet to students .Then play a song “Jingle Bells” in order to render class in a relaxed atmosphere. (Students go into the class in an easy atmosphere. They will feel happy and comfortable.) 2>
New concept Step1 Through the leading—in to learn some new words. Make a dialogue about the song to learn the new word “Santa”. CAI shows a picture of Santa. Then ask them some questions about this picture, such as: What color are his clothes? What does he do?

The teacher says something about Santa. The students follow teacher to answer the questions. Then leads to Christmas. ②
CAI shows a picture of Christmas and the word “Christmas”. Show them Christmas trees and Christmas lights. ③
Look at the calendar to find out the date of Christmas. It’s December 25. (This step leads to Christmas. With help of pictures, the students are impressed on Christmas. And pictures to attract children’ attention, so that they are interested in Christmas.) Step2 CAI shows the students some beautiful pictures about holidays. Teach them a new word “holiday”. ①
Is Christmas our Chinese holiday? Of course, it’s not our Chinese holiday. It’s a western holiday.

(Change another way to teach them the new words. The students will not feel boring.) Step3
There is a very important holiday in China. For Chinese people, it is as important as Christmas in the west. Let’s see what do we do in Spring Festival? Give them some questions, such as, do th
children go to school? Do people go to work? Then tell them Spring Festival is special for our Chinese people. Christmas is also special for western people.
Let students answer two questions:⑴ What’ Christmas? ⑵Why is Christmas special? The teacher leads to them say the answers. Play CAI of part one. CAI shows them some sentences and ask them to fill the blanks. ⑴ Christmas is a __________
holiday. ⑵ People ______ work and children ______to school on a holiday. ⑶ Christmas ________ is very beautiful. ⑷ Christmas _______are on our house. ⑸ _______ is a merry man in red clothes. He ______ toys on Christmas. Ask one or two volunteers to say something about Christmas. (This step is very important. Students recall and say what we do in Spring Festival. This step will not only allow children to dare to speak but also to exercise their oral English. The last exercise helps them to consolidate the new knowledge.) Step4 Show students a picture that Santa brings gifts to
children. Let students describe the course. Then ask one student to act Santa. T: I will ask one student to be Santa. Santa brings toys and gifts for us. He will give them to us. Santa:“I bring many gifts for you. Merry Christmas! This toy is for you”
Student:“Merry Christmas! Santa gives me a toy”
(This step helps students master the key structure. The students can think and say by themselves.) Step5 Ask some students to say something about how we spend the Spring Festival. Then leads to Jenny’
family to spend Christmas. Play the CAI of part two. Give them some questions and then ask them to read the part two. Play CAI again and help them to say the answers. ①

What do people say on Christmas? ⑥
When is Christmas? Then ask them to compared Spring Festival and Christmas to find out the difference and the same.
Step6 Homework: Ask them to write something about Christmas and show it next class. Teaching reflection: In this lesson, I try to guide students to learn the western holiday one step by step. I encourage them to say something about holidays. Some practices writing can help them lay the basis. And they can improve the level of writing through the method of topic for discussion. However, there are many shortcomings in this class, welcome everyone to give me some more good advice.
