Unit7 Be Careful

Part A Let’s learn

Teaching aims:

1. Knowledge aims

Enable Ss to listen, read, write and use these key words and phrases: traffic lights stop, wait, cross the street, turn left, turn right.

2. Ability aims

Enable Ss to use the imperative patterns: Please… Don’t… in real situations.

3. Emotional aims

To help Ss’ develop some good traffic habits.

The teaching key points and difficult points are based

on the teaching aims.

Key points:

Ss can listen, read, write and use these words and phrases.

Difficult points

Ss can use the imperative patterns skillfully.

Ways of teaching

“Task-based” teaching method ;situational teaching method.

Teaching aids

A recorder, CAI, some traffic signs and clothes of volunteers.

Teaching procedure

Step1 Leading--in

1.Show Ss some pictures of little volunteers in Hengzhou Primary School working on a street to help people obey traffic rules and then Ss watch a video from the volunteers.

T: Do you want to be little volunteers? But you have to finish the training and some tasks before they succeed in the recruitment contest.

At the beginning of the class, it is important to start a learning surrounding with a real situation and make the Ss become interested in the following study.

Step2 Presentation

1、First, Ss watch a short video and answer this question. I’ll lead them to notice the traffic signs and then learn the new words and phrases.

2. With the help of the CAI, I let the Ss compare the traffic signs and then lead to learn the pattern: D on’t…, Please….

To present the key words and phrases one by one is much easier for the Ss to grasp the meanings.

Step3 Consolidation

First, let’s play. When the traffic signs are moving from the bottom to the top, Ss should say the imperative patterns “Please…”or “Don’t…”in the limited time.

Second, I’ll design a chant.Ss listen first and then chant together.

The purpose here is to consolidate the pronunciation and use of these new phrases and imperative patterns.

Step4 Practice

There are four tasks in this step.

Task1 Look, tick and say.

Ss look at the pictures, tick the right answers and then read the sentences one by one.

This is to check if Ss can understand and read these key phrases and patterns correctly.

Task 2 let’s finish

Ss finish the thinking map to develop the ability of writing.

Task 3 Let’s act

Ss work in four to act a scene on a crossing road. There are four roles: the changing traffic signs, a girl who is crossing the road, a driver, and a volunteer. Ss watch the example video first and then act it out.

This is a chance for Ss to give presentation and the T can check all what Ss have learned in the lesson in a real situation.

Task4 Let’s discuss

Ss give suggestions to help Hengyang become a national civilized city.

By doing this, Ss can realize the importance of obeying traffic rules and develop some good traffic habits. Then it comes to the congratulations to the Ss who can be little volunteers.

Step 5 Homework

1.Know more traffic signs and translate them.

2.Give suggestions to your family members on how to obey traffic rules.

Teaching reflection:

In this lesson, task-based and situational teaching methods are used to make it easier for Ss to understand and learn the lesson. This lesson is based on daily life and what they learned can also be used in daily life. Therefore, I believe that the objective of learning English as a tool of communication can be achieved and at the same time, it is helpful to make Ss become more interested in learning English.
