Activity: let students to write it on their own and then discuss with their partners. After that, ask one student to present his/ her writing.

Teaching assessment As a matter of fact, the period could be divided into three parts. Some related words and phrases on introducing a place were introduced in part one, which was printed on students’ learning paper as they are really important and fundamental. Students were required to preview it before the class in order to get the general idea on introducing a place. In this way, students could check their understandings on these words and phrases in class. The results are basically equivalent to the expectant effect.

Sentence combination is part 2, which is designed to make the sentences more complicated. What we learned in part 1 were only simple sentences, which is not enough for high school students who must have the ability to combine sentences. Within all the combining methods, the teacher chose complex, the predicate structure and preposition structure as they are really common and the learning importance in grade one. Compared with former two methods, the preposition structure is more unfamiliar to the students. As a result, the teacher presented two examples. Then two kinds of exercise are designed to infiltrate the knowledge. Students could know the main idea of the methods in the first one which is to identify them, while in the second one, students were allowedto discuss with partners to combine sentences. After that, one student presented his work in class so that the rest of them could learn it again. What the teacher expected, so far, almost came true. The third part, writing, was to test their understandings on this class. Students were given 7 minutes to write it by themselves and then they could discuss with their partners to solve the difficulties. The presentation of one student’s writing, actually, is the evaluation not only for the students but also for the teacher who originally hoped that the mistakes could be identified by the former, at least some of them. However, only a few of them were able to do that. The students’ performances failed the teacher’s expectations which may due to the reason that the difficulty of the writing is much above their average English level. This writing is not quite suitable for the students and the teacher was unable to foresee it. After all, they are art students. The requirement on English for them is not as the same on the ordinary high school students. Therefore, the teacher should focus on the basics and fundaments next time.
