Reading and writing. Ⅲ.Analysis of the Text This class is the second period of Module 5 and it is a reading and writing class. Basically, students are interested in shopping and the Internet so online shopping is a hot issue to talk about. Shopping on the Internet is becoming more and more popular so they are quite familiar with it. The theme of the article is about all things have two sides. It teaches students to look at things from two sides so it cultivates students’

ability of thinking. The reason to choose this lesson is because students can learn to think critically and apply it into daily life.

Ⅳ.Analysis of the Students After half a year of middle school English learning, they have certain ability to use comprehensive language. The text is related to their daily lives so they have a lot of things to talk about. Although they have gained some reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, predicting and so on, they are not good at using them to get the specific information in the text or think critically.

Ⅴ.Teaching Objectives According to the core competencies theory. My students are expected to develop four key competencies. a) The learning ability: Students can get the specific information in the text and understand the passage by using the reading strategies such as skimming, scanning and predicting; The can learn and master the new vocabularies and key phrases. b) The language ability: Students can analyze the advantages and disadvantages and make a choice.

c) The thinking quality: Students can know that “Every coin has two sides.” and learn to look at things from two sides. It can help them cultivate critical thinking. d) The cultural character: Students can know more about online shopping and they can realize that technology makes a big difference of our society.

Ⅵ. Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points Teaching Key Points: a) Use the reading strategies to finish tasks. b) Students can analyze the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping. Teaching Difficult Points: a) Observe both sides of problems and make a choice. b) To avoid going to extremes while giving opinions. Ⅶ. Teaching Methods For achieving the teaching aims and after the analysis of the teaching material, key points and difficult points, I’ll use the following methods according to the modern social communication teaching theories. a) Interactive Approach. Language is for communication and students are interested in this topic, so I will let them cooperate with each other.

b) Task-based Language Teaching. Students at this age are willing to challenge themselves so I will provide them with several reading tasks. c) Whole Language Teaching. It can present a theme from different angles by repeated reproduction, so they will have opportunity to combine the past knowledge with the new knowledge we are going to learn. Ⅺ.Teaching Procedures Lead-in Step 1:

Before class, I will introduce myself to the new students. “Hi, everyone. It’s so great to meet you here. My name is Zhang Caiwei and you can call me Miss Zhang. Are you clear? You are so smart and active and I hope we can cooperate with each other well. OK?” Then it’s time to begin our class. T: Class begins. Good afternoon, boys and girls. Ss: Good afternoon, Miss Zhang. T: Does your like shopping? Where does she go shopping? (The aim is to review Unit 1 and brain storm other places where people can go shopping.) Step 2: Enjoy a short video made by myself. Students get to know more ways of shopping. Lead in the topic that online shopping is one of them. T: As you know, online shopping is popular. What can you buy online? Students will say lots of things then we know the new word “product”.

T: People can buy almost everything on the Internet. So today we will go on our study, Unit 2 You can buy everything on the Internet. Pre-reading Activity 1: Free talk. Students discuss with partners. Online shopping is very popular, do you like it? Why or why not? Students may speak out many advantages or disadvantages of online shopping. Activity 2: Students speak some advantages and disadvantages about online shopping, so it’s very easy to make a prediction about the main idea of the passage.

While-reading Activity 3: Skim the passage and get the main idea of each paragraph. Para. 1 is about how to shop on the Internet. Para 2 is about some advantages about online shopping. Para 3 is about some disadvantages about online shopping. And the last paragraph is about how is online shopping changing our lives? Activity 4: Read para. 1 and check T(true) or F(false). Correct the false 3

sentences. 1. Online shopping is a new way of shopping. 2. You pay for online shopping before you get it. 3. Online shopping is very difficult. Let students check if they are true or not. If it is not true, then correct them. Activity 5: Read para. 1 and fill in the blanks. Students then know the steps of shopping on the Internet. Activity 6: Read para. 2&3 and then find the advantages and disadvantages of online shopping. Show some pictures of the steps and let the students remember or retell them easily. Activity 7: Read para. 7, fill in the blanks and answer the last three questions. Use words: Where, How, When, Why. Play a game: Show the famous stars in the TV reality show called “Running Man”. Let students choose one and he/ she will ask you several questions. Post-reading Activity 8: Group work; make a mind map about supermarket shopping. Give the structure of the mind map and some useful words and let students to talk with each other and finish the task. Activity 9: Imitative writing: Students try to write an article about supermarket shopping. They can rely on the mind map of their group work.
