Description of land, climate and population. 1. 本人从高二下学期期初才接手该班，学生英语基础相对薄弱，但学生学习态度很好，坚持学习会有无限的上升空间。

2. 由于本节课文篇幅较长，学生阅读起来相对吃力，根据学生实际情况，对教材内容做了整合，保留了教材的主要内容和知识点，仅对文章中的个别问题做了删减处理。

Unit 1 New Zealand

Ask students to look up some information about New Zealand on the Internet in advance, including geography, history, population, cities, climate and travel and so on. Teaching Procedures:

Step 1. Lead-in

Play a video about a ballad in New Zealand.

1) Ask the students whether they like the ballad and tell them it is a famous ballad in New Zealand.

2) Ask the students what they have learnt about New Zealand.

Step 2. Warming up

Show the students five statements and decide whether they are true or false.

Step 3. Pre-reading Ask the students to look at the map of New Zealand and try to answer some questions.

Step 4 Reading To cultivate the students’ ability of reading comprehension: skimming, scanning, generalization, inference and so on.

Extensive reading 1) Read the whole text quickly and get the main idea. Tell them to find out the key words or the key sentences of each paragraph.

Intensive reading 2) Read the text carefully and answer some questions.

3) Put the following historical events in order.

4) Fill in the blanks according to the passage.

Step 4. Summary Ask the students what they have learnt today. Remind them to think about from the two aspects: geography and history.

Step 5 Homework

To write a passage according to what they have learned today.

Step 6. Relaxing time After the long and nervous learning, we have learned something about New Zealand, now let’s relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery in New Zealand.
