Lesson 4 The double life of Alfred Bloggs

Teaching methods:

Task-based teaching method Teaching procedure: Step I: Lead-in Introduce the topic by showing some pictures and have the students make a comparison between the two people.

Step II: Check the preview work Check the preview work by answering questions: 1.

What was Alf? (A dustman.) 2.

What did he do every day?

(Every morning, he left home dressed in a smart black suit. He then changed into overalls and spent the next eight hours as a dustman. Before returning home, he took a shower and changed back into his suit.) 3.

How did he successfully keep it a secret? (His fellow dustmen kept his secret.) 4.

Where will Alf be working in future, and what will happen to him then?

(He will be working in an office and earning only half as much as he used to.) Step III: In-class activities 1.

Have the students understand the difficult sentences and some phrases: ①Such is human nature, that a great many people are often willing to sacrifice higher pay for the privilege of becoming white-collar workers. ②People who work in offices are frequently referred to as ‘white collar workers’

for the simple reason that they usually wear a collar and tie to go to work. ③e.g. The news that our team has won the final match is encouraging. Dad made a promise that he shall buy me a CD player if I passed the English exam. They asked me the question whether the work was worth doing.

2017. 10.24 2. Have the students discuss the topic: If you had a chance to make a choice, which one would you like to be, a white-collar worker or a blue-collar worker? Tell the reasons. Use the model: If I could make a choice, I would like to be... Reasons are as follows. First of all... In addition... Last but not the least...

3. Have the students retell the story. 

2017. 10.24 教学反思：

课文选自新概念第三册，故事内容生动有趣，易于激发学生学习兴趣。生词较多但贴近生活，利于学生的理解接受和学习运用。因此针对文本特征，做出如上教学设计：通过检查预习情况，生词释义，文章细节问答，观点讨论，课文内容复述的方法帮助学生理解文段。但在课堂实际教学过程中，仍遇到很多问题，不足之处有待完善。课堂教学侧重教学目标、教学内容、教学过程、教学方法与教学手段、教学情感的五优化，因此我有了如下反思：

1.从课堂导入环节开始就要调动学生的积极性，增强学生的课堂参与度。启发、引导学生积极思考问题，鼓励他们踊跃举手。

2.课堂时间合理分配，讨论和复述课文内容要给学生预留充足时间，并明确要求，最好给予示例。学生表达观点过程中给予适当语言用法的指导。

3.在平时教学中尽量推行英语授课，辅助以少量英文讲解。营造双语学习的氛围，使学生更加熟悉英语课堂环境和课堂用语，从而培养其语用能力。

4.控制好课堂节奏，丰富课堂衔接用语。注意细节，避免口语提问的语法错误。注意对学生的启发式教学，用简单的语言阐释生词。

5.增加肢体语言。多设计和学生的互动环节。
