Teaching Material: Reading passage of Unit 14

Lesson 4

Job Trends Teaching Type: Reading period of 45 minutes Passage Analysis: This passage tells about the future shock that we will encounter in the job market, which is also the interest of today's Chinese students. They can have a better understanding of future plans through studying the passage. Students Analysis: Students of Grade Eleven have the ability to read skillfully and grasp the meaning of the passage clearly.

Part One

Teaching Goals Target Language: In this reading period, we have key words and expressions like decrease, operate, advantage, in case, and branch. We also have key sentences like "People will move around to do different jobs, rather than moving up in the company as before." and "It's not about making men more like women, but help men to communicate as well." Ability Goals: Get Ss involved in the reading activities and let them understand the deeper meaning expressed in the passage, thus inspiring the writing motivation. Learning Ability Goals: Teach Ss some reading skills, such as how to deal with the passages with sentence gaps, and how to draw a mind map. Moral Goals: Let Ss realize the challenge they will face in the job market, and have an optimistic view towards the future by listing their reasons and advantages for the jobs.

Part Two

Teaching Important and Difficult Points Teaching Difficult and Important Points: Practice the reading comprehension skills to grasp the passage and write about the future plan for job. Teaching Methods: Presentation, inspiration, task-based and competition. Teaching Aids: A computer, a projector, and the Bb.

Part Three

Teaching Procedures To achieve the goals and solve the important and different points, there are altogether seven steps here to perform this lesson following the physical and psychological characteristics of Ss. Step 1 Warmer Have two students take part in the game of choosing the right words about the jobs. Step 2 Lead-in Analyze the passage title "Survival of the Fittest" step by step. Step 3 Reading With the help of Reading Strategies, finish Ex 2 on P29 while reading the whole passage in five minutes. Step 4 Listening and Mind Map Listen to the tape and try to answer the four questions in Ex3 on P29, and then draw a mind map with those four questions. Step 5 Summary Get two students participate in the two tasks of filling in the blanks in order to summarize the passage. Step 6 Bulletin Board After analysis of two sample writings from Tom and Jane, get Ss to write down the job they would like to do and require them to list their reasons and advantages. Then, enjoy some sample writing from each group together. Step 7 Homework 1. Recite the new words. 2. Refine the writing.

Part Four

Bb design The Bb is made up of two parts. The left part is about the topic and the major steps of this reading period. The right is about Group Competition of the Ss.
