Instructional objectives
By the end of the class, students should be able to:
Language skills:
1) can pronounce the words correctly and learn to know the meaning of the vocabularies by situations, teacher’s explaining and guessing though the context: tiger, giraffe, elephant, lion, etc. 2)can talk about the animals with the sentence structure: What are these? They are....
3)can read the dialogue with partners.
Educational objectives
Affect: At the end of the class, students should be able to remember to be friendly with animals and try to protect them.
Cultural awareness: At the end of the class, students should be able to identify different animals from various shapes.
Personal objectives
Teacher tries to be more passionate and create an active atmosphere for classes.
Key and difficulty points:
1) Students can pronounce “giraffe “and” these” correctly.
2) Students can distinguish the meaning of “these” from “those”.
3) Students can communicate with each others by the new sentence patterns.

Teaching Procedures:
Step1 Warming up (4 mins)
1. Daily greetings with students
T: Hello, Boys and girls.
Ss: Hello, Miss Wu.
T: Nice to meet you.
Ss: Nice to meet you, too.
T: How are you?
Ss: Fine, thank you. And you?
T: I’m OK. Thanks.
2.lead in (Video about lovely animals)
Watch a video about animals. Then ask the students what animals they can see? Let students to say out the animal they see in the video. And guide them to go to the zoo.
Step 2 Presentation (10 mins)
Present the pictures of panda, pandas and ask them “What’s this? What are theses? ”and “What are those?”to guide Students to tell the words-pandas. Lead in today’s topic Unit 5 Those are pandas.
2. Now, Boys and girls. Let’s go to the zoo and meet some other new friends! Show the PPT. Look, Who are they? They are animals. Now, l et’s go and meet them one by one.
3. Show the giraffe of PPT, Ask: What’s this? Help the students answer: It’s a giraffe. The teacher puts the panda card and go to the middle of the students to teach the word giraffe. The students read the word after the teacher. Then go back to the front and put the word card on the blackboard. Let the students read together.
4. Show the giraffes of PPT, Ask: What are these? Help the students answer: They are giraffes. (Write it on the blackboard). The teacher puts the sentence “They are giraffes.”and go to the middle of the students to teach the sentence. The students read the sentence after the teacher. Then go back to the front and put the sentence on the blackboard. Let the students together.
5. Teach the words: tiger, lion, elephant and their plural forms with vivid sounds and pictures. Step 3 Practice (5 mins)
1. Guessing game
Show the picture of the animal panda, giraffe, tiger, lion and elephant on the PPT with a little part, get students to have a guess and ask students to stand up and speak out the words of animals. 2. Brainstorm
Present the English word of each animal and ask “What’s this?” and guide students to answer “It’s a/ an....”.
3. Pair work
Show the picture of pandas, giraffes, tigers, lions, elephants and ask students “What are these/ those?”to guide students to get familiar with the plural form. Then get one or two students to practice with the teacher on the blackboard to let other students know the rules of pair work. Then tell students “Now, you have 2 minutes to practice with your partners.
(When students are practicing the conversation, teacher move around to check their task)
Step 4 Pre-listening (5mins)
1.Teacher ask students “What are these?” and guide students to speak “They are lions.” Then ask “ What do lions look like?” Guide students to learn lions character.
2.Guide students to learn elephants and pandas’ character in the same way.
Step 5 While-listening (8 mins )
1.Look, listen and say
T: Today we go to the zoo and make some new friends. In our textbook, Lucy and her friend also come to the zoo. Let’s listen what animal they are talking about.
Guide students to listen and read after the tape and ask “What animal can they see?”and let students choose “pandas.”
2.Riddle (Present some description words and get students to guess the animal and enhance their memory)
Step 6 Consolidation (8 mins)
1.Watch a video of the animal’s situation and call students to protect our friends-animals.
2.Homework: Introduce the animal which the students learned in class to your parents in English and try to protect our friends-animals.
