Teaching Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1) Get familiar with some new words and phrases in this unit (e.g. tough, high-rise, a guilty conscience etc).

2) Find the relevant information about the 3 accidents in the 3 letters. (skimming and scanning). 3) Learn how to give advice through group discussions and teacher’s guidance. Teaching procedures: Stages Teacher’s activities

1. Ask students to talk about the person who they would like to ask for help when they are in trouble. 2. Get students to learn some new words while leading in this period. 1. Ask students to read the first letter and try to answer the questions according to the time order.

2. Teach students some new words (such as smash) and a new phrase (high-rise flat) by using synonyms and pictures. 3. Ask students to summarize the problem by using one sentence. 1.Ask students to read the second letter and complete the form. 2.Teach students some new words (such as bully) by using synonyms.

3.Show students 2 pictures and ask them to use relative clauses to define the phrase (tough guy) by themselves. 4. Ask students to summarize the problem by using one sentence. Students’ activities
