Unit 1 My classroom

C. Story time [Analysis of the teaching material] It’s the 6th period of unit 1, and it’s a story. The passage contents the key words and sentences of this unit. And through the story, students review the prepositions of places, and the sentences to describe the location of the items.

[Analysis of the students] Students of Grade 4 have learnt English for 1 year. They are interested in English. And they’re interested in story, too. This is a funny story and that contents the key knowledge of the unit. Students can have a good consolidation through the story. [Teaching aims] Be able to use the key sentences “Where is the …? It’s on/in/…the …”; be able to understand the story, and can read it out fluently or act out the story.

Step 1: Warm-up: 1.

Sing a song “We have a new classroom.”

Look and say: What’s in the classroom? (Students watch the picture and answer the questions.) 3.

Say more about OUR classroom. (Students say something about our classroom.) 4.

Lead-in the class: a.

To show the sound of a bee, students guess what is it, then Teacher show the bee magic stick, and say “Oh, it’s a bee.”

b.

Teach the sentence: Ah, yes. It really IS a bee.(Show it on PPT.) Ss read the sentence after the recorder, and pay attention to the intonation. c.

Ask some students to imitate the recorder and read out the sentence. d.

Ss watch the picture of a bee, and describe it.

Step 2: Presentation 1.

Look and say something about the picture. a.

Show picture 1 and 2 of the story, Ss watch it, and imagine the story, and say out the idea. b.

Show the passage of Picture 1 and 2, Ss read after the recorder. c.

Think and talk—Will the bee stop on the light ? 2.

Group work: Jigsaw reading a.

Ss Please take out your work sheet, look at the pictures and read the story in groups, then answer the questions: Where is the bee

now? b.

Ss say out the answer, T show Picture 3,4,5 on PPT.

Pair work: Discuss with your partner: Does Miss Sheep know the bee? If you’re Miss Sheep, how do you feel when you see the bee on the blackboard? Why? 4.

Watch the video, and find out “How does Miss Sheep feel when she sees the bee?”

5.

Look at your books, follow the recorder, and imitate the tones.

Step 3: Consolidation and extension: 1.

Choose one to act out: ▲ Read the story together in groups. ▲▲ Read the story together in roles. ▲▲▲ Act the story. 2.

Use your animal magic stick to make up a new story, then try to act it out with your partners.
