Jurassic Park—Scientific Fact or Hollywood Fiction?

It tells us the scientific truth behind dinosaur cloing in Jurassic Park.The passage can be divided into three parts.The author in the first paragraph gives us a brief introduction to the sci-fi adventure film Jurassic Park.In paragraphs2-5,the author deals with the scientific possibility of cloning dinosaurs in four aspects.And in the last paragraph,the author draws a conclusion that cloning dinosaurs seems scientifically impossible and the only place that dinosaurs seems to exist today is in Hollywood.

Analysis of the students

All the students have grasped some words and expressions, and they have some knowledge of cloning.but to get the main idea of a passage is somewhat difficult for students.because they are poor in English-reading.Thus ,enabling students to get the general idea of the passage by reading again and again should be a very important ,also a difficult task for the teacher. Step 1

Lead in Scenes of extract from Jurassic Park where some dinosaurs are wandering in the park are shown on the screen. Ask students what the name of the movie is and who has ever seen the film.Give

a brief introduction to the film Jurassic Park,then scenes where the two experts are visiting dinosaur museum are shown on the screen. Step 2

Pre-reading

Ask the students the question:

Is it scientifically possible to clone dinosaurs from dinosaur DNA taken from prehistoric mosquitoes? Or is this just Hollywood fiction?

Students work in pairs,then ask one or two students to give their answers.

While-reading

1, Fast reading---individual work. Have the students read the passage Jurassic Park—scientific Fact or Hollywood Fiction? Quickly and do Exercise 2 Choose the best main idea.(Exercise 3 on page 68 )

2.Listening. After checking the answer ,the teacher play the tape and the students follow in a low voice.

3, Detailed reading.let the students read the passage again and do Exercise 3

Match the sentences with the right paragraph.

4，Ask the students to divide the passage into three or four parts according to the main idea of each paragraph. Part one :brief introduction to Jurassic Park.Part Two : difficulties in cloning dinosaurs. Part Three: The world is not ready for dinosaurs.
