Pre-Listening& Vocabulary

1:T ask Ss “Is it easy to find a job nowadays?”and “What we should do to get a job?”

Ss discuss the questions in pairs.

Purposes:To practise their spoken English.

T ask them to do Ex. 1. and check students’

answers by having them read out the advice in the form of “(Do) …”

or “Don’t…”.

Purposes：To elicit to the topic.

Students work individually reading the advice and figuring out the meaning of the phrasal verbs. Then, work in pairs putting the sentences into the correct boxes.

Purposes：To practise using the language of job interview.

2:Ask them to check the meaning of the phrasal verbs and give them more examplesentences. Use a dictionary to check the meaning.

Encourage students to read through the whole text quickly to get a general idea of the meaning before they start filling in the gaps. Students do the exercise individually and then compare answers in pairs. Purposes：To practise using phrasal verbs.

While-listening 1.

Ask students to listen to an interview for a holiday job and complete the chart.Students listen to the interview to get an overall understanding of it, then, complete

the chart. PurposesTo practise listening. 2，Play the cassette again for students to take down the questions the interviewer has asked. Check answers as a class. Listen to the interview again and complete the questions.

As a class, students discuss whether they think Oliver got the job and give their reasons.Discuss whether they think Oliver got the job and give their reasons.

Read through the words with the class. And check answers by listening and pausing after the answer is given. Students work in pairs completing the Function File.

3.Ask them to listen to people asking the interview to repeat or explain something. Judge which of them are polite and which are not. Students listen to the cassette and decide if the speaker is polite or not.

Speaking Divide the class into pairs and have one student (Student A) in each pair play the role of the interviewer and the other student (Student B) take the role of the interviewee.Students work individually reading their role cards and preparing for the interview. Purposes：To practise using the language of job interview.
