The reading material focuses on the topic of describing your hometown and childhood with the tense of past simple with be. This passage is about Betty’s past life in Quincy. It includes the introduction of Quincy, the introduction of Analysis of the Betty’s living environment and her old friends. It intends to show that Betty enjoys her childhood and misses her friends. It also shows that Betty loves her teaching material and hometown and is proud of it.

The students in Grade Seven have learnt the past simple with be in Unit1, so the students it’s not difficult for them to understand the sentences with was and were, but it may be a bit difficult for them to talk and write about their past life with the target language.
