Step I Lead-in and Warming Up T: Good morning, everybody. Glad to meet you. In this module, we talk much about small talk, would you like to make small talk with strangers? Do you feel embarrassed when you talk with a stranger? Have you ever experienced any embarrassing situation when you talk with a stranger? Now, let’s look at a video. Such an embarrassing situation happens in your dining hall. T: In the video, a boy wants to talk with a girl, but he doesn’t know how to make small talk. Their conversation just ends up with an embarrassment. Do you have the same experience? If so, don’t worry! I’ll help you. Now, please take out your textbook, and turn to p.13. Let’s read the passage, and find out the good solution. Step Ⅱ

Reading Task 1: Read the passage, and answer the questions.

1. What’s the function of small talk? ( within 5 words ) 2. What’s the formula of the AAA model? (within 6 words ) 3. Why do people like use the AAA model? ( within 5 words) 4. ) Step III : Discussion

1. T: Imagine you share the same table with a strange schoolmate when you have

lunch in the dining hall. Do you want to make a small talk with him/her? Now, let’s make a dialogue with your partner, and I’ll ask three pairs to act out your dialogue.

2. Some students act out their dialogues.

3. T: Just now, we make a dialogue using the AAA module. Do you think it’s a good idea to make small talk with strangers? If so, try to use it in your daily life. It will help you improve your social skills. Step IV:

Revision 1. T: So far, we finished the content of Module 1, let’s have a review briefly. Last period, I ask you to collect some important language points. Now each group chooses a representative to show your collection. 2. The students come to the platform to perform as a teacher. They will have

interaction with their classmates.
