Ⅳ. Grammar

We use wish express regrets: ·

wish +past tense express regrets about the present. I wish I had more free time. (=I’d like to have more free time at present)

wish + past perfect express regrets about the past. I wish we had gone rock climbing last weekend.(= I regret we didn’t go back climbing last weekend). should ·we use should (n’t) + infinitive without to to suggest changes in the present. The class should be smaller. ·we use shouldn’t +perfect infinitive to express regrets about the past. I shouldn’t have gone to that school.
