Analysis of Materials The material is from PEP Primary English Grade 4, Volume1. This lesson is the third period in Unit3. The rule of “o” in closed syllable were presented before. According to the New Curriculum Standard, we should cultivate the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. As for the core competence of English subject, we should improve students’ language competence, cultural character, trait of thinking and learning ability. Analysis of Students Our students are in Grade 4. They’re active and curious about the activities, such as games, competitions and etc. they’ve learnt some words and phrases about animals, body parts, actions, items and so on. Teaching Aims: Language Competence Aims: 1.
Understand and say the new words: note, Jones, Coke, nose, toe.

Understand and master the rule of “o” in open syllable. 3.
Understand and read the picture book Old Mr Jones.
Learning Ability Aims: 1.
Be able to read the words according to the rule of “o” in open syllable. 2.
Read short stories and passages with the help of phonics.
Trait of Thinking Aims: Improve creative thinking by making new words. Cultural Character Aims: 1.
Be friendly to others. 2.
Have good habits as visitors. 3.

Try to pronounce and spell the words “toe”.

Learn to chant. Step IV Consolidation and Extension. 1.
Read the cards and find out their friends. Divide the class into groups of four. Show each group a board and some word cards. Ask students to put the cards in different parts. 2.
Make the words by using the computer. 3.
Fill in the blanks. 4.
Tell students some good habits as visitors. Homework Read a story book about “u-e”.
